A bracket (14) mountable on a vertical surface comprising: a generally rectangular shaped body (1) having a generally U-shaped slot (7) extending partially across the body for receiving a hanging rod (11) or hanger; and a plurality of spaced apart grooves (6) on a surface of the slot (7) in which a plurality of teeth on a locking member (8) can be engaged.
