The present invention discloses a collet head for a pick and place machine, the collet head comprising a detachable collet insert (5) having a collet tip and in which the collet insert (5) is received in a collet shaft (1) provided by the collet head, characterised in that a distal end of the collet shaft (1) has at least one channel (4) with an open end for passing a protrusion (6) of the insert (5) to engage with means for securing the protrusion (6) within the channel (4) so that the collet insert (5) is secured in the collet shaft (1).
