Abstract
The present invention relates to a method to detect Ganoderma species from oil palm samples. In particular the invention uses a PCR-based technique that makes use of a DNA primer pair to target specifically the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region in the genomes of both Ganoderma species and oil palm. The subsequent process would then be able to distinguish the ITS of Ganoderma from the ITS of oil palm. The invention also relates to the use of a conserved gene sequence in the genome of Ganoderma that is not present in the genome of oil palm, said gene sequence to be used as a marker to detect the presence of Ganoderma.
