Abstract

The present invention relates to an improved method of synthesizing biodiesel from oil sources. The biodiesel is synthesized by carrying out enzymatic esterification of oil feedstock. The method produces biodiesel which has low free fatty acid content which meets the biodiesel standards and gives high yield of biodiesel without the need of a recycling step. The method converts the unreacted FFA to methyl ester without recycling using a process that is simpler and more efficient. The biodiesel produced has an FFA content below 0.25 percent.
