Abstract

There is disclosed a method for manufacturing a glass substrate (1) for a magnetic disk comprising glass substrate cleaning processing, wherein the glass substrate (1) contains at least one component of sodium and potassium in a glass component; and cleaning processing is sequentially performed on a plurality of the glass substrates (1) by using a cleaning liquid containing an alkaline agent that is free of sodium and potassium, although sodium ions and/or potassium ions in the cleaning liquid increase due to elution of the sodium and/or the potassium in the glass component, the cleaning processing is performed on the plurality of the glass substrates (1) having a main surface (11) polished into a mirror-finished surface and maintaining a condition in which a total concentration of the sodium ions and the potassium ions in the cleaning liquid is 4.00 x 10 mol/L or less, thereby suppressing increase in a surface roughness of the main surface (11) of the glass substrate after being subjected to the cleaning processing.
