Abstract

The present invention relates to a testing device (100) for detecting a refractive index 5 of a honey sample. The testing device includes a casing (1); a first component (2) and a second component (3) secured to the casing (1), the first component (2) being in optical communication with a second component (3); an optical component (4), in the form of Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG), extending across the first (2) and second components (3), the optical component (4) having a metal coated part (5) fixed 10 between the first (2) and second (3) components, the metal coated part (5) being operable to detect a refractive index based on a plasmonic effect generated by the sample deposited on the metal coated part (5); and the device (100) has a length of 20.5cm, a width of 14.5cm, and a thickness of 5cm, at most.
