Abstract
A device (10; 210) for magnetizing a tissue-penetrating medical device is disclosed including a housing (20; 220; 420) having a proximal portion (21; 421) and a distal portion (22; 422); a magnetic field generator (30; 230) contained within the distal portion (22; 422) of the housing and a tissue penetrating subassembly (60; 260;440) including a hub (70; 270; 450) and a tissue penetrating medical device (80) having a proximal end (81; 221; 262; 265; 461) and a distal end. The hub (70; 270; 450) is detachably connected to the distal portion (22; 422) of the housing and the proximal end (81; 221; 262; 265; 461) of tissue penetrating medical device (80) extends proximally from the hub (70; 270; 450) such that the proximal end (81; 221; 262; 265; 461) of the tissue penetrating medical device (80) is exposed to the magnetic field to magnetize the distal end of the tissue penetrating medical device. Methods of magnetizing tissue-penetrating medical devices are also disclosed.
