The invention relates to a greenhouse for growing crops, comprising a frame anchored to the ground, provided with panels, crops and a device arranged therein for illuminating the crop, the device comprising: lamps arranged above the crop; said lamps comprising a protective cap provided with a reflector. Such greenhouses can be found a lot in the Netherlands, for example in the Westland. A problem with such greenhouses is that a relatively large part of the lighting radiation is not directed towards the crop, but is emitted to the environment via the panels, whether or not after reflection of the light in the greenhouse. This so-called light pollution is becoming an increasing problem in industrialized countries, particularly during the night. In this way, too much artificial light can cause sleeping problems for humans and especially for many animal species. Furthermore, it appears that astronomical research has become virtually impossible in the aforementioned countries due to the disruptive lighting radiation.
The result has been that legal standards for the emission of artificial light to the environment are becoming stricter. As a result, the greenhouse horticulture sector will more and more be forced to take countermeasures.
In the current state of the art, this has been solved by providing movable screens along the panels.
From US 4,078,169 a lamp is known, the reflector of which is arranged above the crop at a specific defined distance. A particularly shaped reflector is known from GB 2 357 332.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a greenhouse for growing crops, which illuminates the crop in an efficient manner, whereby the emission of artificial light is effectively prevented.
This is achieved according to the invention by a greenhouse described in the introduction, which comprises at least one shielding cap, which extends between the lamps, comprising the reflectors, and the crop and which shields the lamp radiation directed towards the panels and the allows crop-directed lamp radiation to pass through a light-transmitting end, the distance between the growing end of the crop and the light-transmitting end being less than 80 centimeters.

The invention makes it possible both to prevent as much as possible or at least to considerably reduce the emission of artificial light to the environment and to provide the crop with sufficient artificial light. As is generally known, the latter is important for rapid growth of the crop.
In a preferred embodiment, the device further comprises displacement means, which move the lamps, the protective cap and the crop relative to each other. The displacement means herein preferably move the lamps, the screening cap and the crop relative to each other in height direction and / or in length direction. The advantage of moving in height direction is on the one hand that the distance between the growing end of the crop and the light-transmitting end can be kept smaller than 80 cm, even in the first growth stage of the crop. On the other hand, fast-growing crops can be prevented from growing against or even in the protective cover. The advantage of mutually longitudinally displacing the lamps, the screening cap and the crop is that fewer lamps can be used. The screening cap will generally provide a concentrated light beam, which can advantageously be combined with moving it relative to each other in order to be able to illuminate the entire crop surface uniformly with such a concentrated beam. It is further preferred that the displacement means move the lamps and the screening cap simultaneously with respect to the crop, so that displacement of the lamps has no influence on the screening by the screening cap.
In another preferred embodiment, the distance between the growing end of the crop and the light-transmitting end is less than 40 cm, such as less than 20 cm. The advantage here is improved shielding.
Preferably, reflective material is provided on the inside of the protective cap that reflects the lamp radiation, as a result of which radiation losses due to the presence of the protective cap are prevented as much as possible.
In a preferred embodiment the screening cap comprises mutually connectable segments, wherein coupling of each segment extends the screening cap in the direction of the crop. The advantage here is that, independent of any displacement means, the distance between the growing end of the crop and the light-transmitting end can be adjusted by coupling or uncoupling one or more segments.
33
In another preferred embodiment, openings are provided at the end opposite the light-transmitting end for receiving the lamps in the cover. As a result, the shielding cap can generally be fitted more easily, which is particularly advantageous when installing a shielding cap on lamps already present.
It is advantageous if the screening cap comprises at least one piece of flexible material which extends beyond the light-transmitting end to the crop, in particular with a relatively fast-growing crop. Flexible material is understood to mean particularly easily bendable material. If the crop grows against the screening cap 10, this will first contact the piece of flexible material that bends easily so that the crop is not damaged.
In another preferred embodiment, the screening cap widens in the direction from the lamps to the crop. As a result, the light beam which finally reaches the crop will be wider than the size of the light-transmitting end and a larger surface area is thus covered.
The lamp is preferably a gas discharge lamp, which type of lamp is frequently used in greenhouse horticulture because of the favorable light-technical properties.
In another preferred embodiment, the device further comprises reflectors which are provided in the shielding cap. The lamps used in greenhouse horticulture usually comprise reflectors to direct the lamp radiation to the crop. For the sake of simple construction, it is advantageous to provide these reflectors in the shielding cap, such as integrally provided in the shielding cap. Integral provision is hereby understood to be a fixed part of the protective cap.
In the above-described preferred embodiment, wherein the device further comprises displacement means, it is preferred that the lamps and the protective cap are connected to at least one beam, which is coupled to the displacement means. The advantage here is that the lamps and the cover can be moved simultaneously only by moving the beam.
The invention further relates to a device for illuminating crop, which is intended for use in a greenhouse according to one of the embodiments described above.
The invention further relates to a method for illuminating crop in a greenhouse, comprising the steps of: <4 providing lighting above the crop that is displaceable relative to the crop, wherein the height between the lighting and the crop depends on the growth stage of the crop is set, shielding the lighting radiation directed to the sides of the greenhouse, which shielding includes placing a shielding cap between the lamps and the crop.
In a preferred embodiment, the method comprises moving the lighting in the longitudinal direction relative to the crop. In another preferred embodiment the method comprises moving the shielding of the lighting beams relative to the crop simultaneously with the movable lighting.
The invention will be further elucidated on the basis of the description of a preferred embodiment according to the invention which is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 een perspectivisch aanzicht toont van de binnenkant van een kas voor het 15 kweken van gewas voorzien van een inrichting voor het belichten van een gewas;FIG. 1 shows a perspective view of the inside of a greenhouse for growing crops provided with a device for illuminating a crop;
Fig. 2 een zijaanzicht toont van een voorkeursuitvoering van een afschermkap volgens de uitvinding.FIG. 2 shows a side view of a preferred embodiment of a screening cap according to the invention.
Verwijzend naar fig. 1 wordt een kas 1 voor het kweken van gewas getoond, omvattende een aan de grond verankerd raamwerk 2 voorzien van panelen 3.Referring to Fig. 1, a greenhouse 1 for growing crops is shown, comprising a frame 2 anchored to the ground and provided with panels 3.
Such greenhouses are generally known and preferably consist of a frame of aluminum profiles, in which glass panels are arranged. In the greenhouse there is crop 4 above which a device 5 for illuminating the crop is arranged.
The device 5 comprises lamps 6 and at least one shielding cap 7, which extends between the lamps 6 and the crop 4 and which shields the lamp radiation 25 directed towards the panels and transmits the lamp radiation directed towards the crop through a light-transmitting end 9, the distance passing through between the growing end of the crop 4 and the light-transmitting end 9 is smaller than 80 cm. This latter distance is preferably smaller than 40 cm, most preferably smaller than 20 cm. At this distance, it is in fact only important that as little radiation as possible comes out of the cover cap which can reach the glass panels in order to prevent as far as possible the harmful emission to the surroundings of the greenhouse. The distances mentioned here form only preferred distances that prove to work well in practice. Intermediate distances 5 and distances slightly larger than 80 cm, however, may also work well depending on the specific situation.
The shielding means that the emission of the artificial light from the lamps to the environment is thus prevented as much as possible, or at least considerably reduced.
In the preferred embodiment of Fig. 1, the device further comprises displacement means 8, which move the lamps 6, shielding cap 7 in the longitudinal direction relative to the crop 4. However, displacing only the crop 4 is also conceivable. In this context, longitudinal displacement is understood to mean in a direction parallel to the growing surface of the crop such that the crop can be fully exposed.
By moving the lamps and the screening cap on the one hand and the crop on the other relative to each other, fewer lamps can be used and optimum use can be made of the concentrated light beam which is adjusted by the screening cap. A person skilled in the art will understand, however, that the invention can also be applied without the displacement means, in which optionally a plurality of rows of lamps, which are each provided with at least one screening cap, are placed above a growing surface with a crop.
ii
Although not shown, the displacing means are preferably also able to move the lamps 6, the shielding cap 7 and the crop 4 relative to each other in height, in order to be able to keep the distance between the growing end of the crop and the light-transmitting end constant, or at least to be able to adapt to a certain growth stage of the crop. As previously noted, the displacement means 8 are adapted to move the lamps 6 and the shielding cap 7 in the longitudinal direction, whereby it becomes possible to illuminate a complete growing surface with a row of lamps 6 provided with a shielding cap 7. In this case the length of the short side of the growing surface will generally correspond substantially to the length of row of lamps 6. A number of substantially parallel rows of lamps for illuminating a growing surface can of course also be envisaged.
In the embodiment of Fig. 1, the lamps 6 and the protective cap 7 are both connected to a beam 10, which is movably suspended from the displacement means 8. The displacement means 8 comprise means known to those skilled in the art, such as, for example, described in Dutch patent NL 1,024,482. The 6 displacement means will generally be suspended from the roof portion of the frame 2 (not shown).
Here, crop is understood to be any type of crop that is suitable for cultivation in a greenhouse, such as, for example, various types of fruit-bearing crops, various types of flowers and various types of house plants.
Referring to Fig. 2, a shielding cap 7 is shown, which comprises mutually connectable segments 12, 13, 14. By connecting and disconnecting a segment, respectively, the height dimension of the screening cap can be adjusted in the direction of the crop. In the embodiment of Fig. 2, only two segments can be coupled, it being clear to a person skilled in the art that this can be expanded to any number. The segments 12, 13, 14 become wider from top to bottom, as a result of which the protective cap also becomes wider from top to bottom, i.e. in the direction of the crop. However, an embodiment in which the segments 13, 14 do not widen and, for example, are identical is also conceivable.
The segments 12, 13, 14 are coupled to each other by means of schematically shown coupling means 15, which are generally known.
At an end opposite the light-transmitting end, the shielding cap 7 comprises openings 16 which are intended to receive the lamps 6 in the shielding cap.
Preferably, the inside of the shielding cap 7 is provided with reflective material (not shown in the figures), such as for example a reflective aluminum coating, whereby as little radiation energy as possible is lost.
In plaats van rubberen strips kan men bijvoorbeeld ook een borstel of bijvoorbeeld dunne metaallinten toepassen.FIG. 2 furthermore shows a piece of flexible material 17, such as, for example, in the preferred embodiment shown, a concatenation of rubber strips, which extends beyond the light-transmitting end. The piece of flexible material 17 is intended to prevent damage to the crop in the event that the crop grows against the protective cap. Instead of rubber strips, it is also possible, for example, to use a brush or, for example, thin metal ribbons.
The lamps 6 preferably comprise gas discharge lamps which are frequently used in greenhouse construction 30 because of the favorable light-technical properties. Such lamps are generally provided with ballast and a reflector, wherein in the preferred embodiment shown in Fig. 1, the ballast is provided substantially outside the shield 7 and the reflector is provided substantially within the shield 7 . Although not shown in the figures, the reflector can also form an integral part of the cover 7, whereby individual reflectors can be omitted. Preferably, the ballast is provided entirely outside the cover, because this equipment generates quite a bit of heat.
The screening cap can for instance be manufactured from aluminum plate, because of the favorable reflection properties of aluminum. Another possibility is to manufacture the hood from plastic sheets, such as polyurethane sheet metal, with an aluminum foil applied to the inside of the hood. This latter embodiment is advantageous with regard to the weight of the hood and the reduced heat emission (towards the environment), at least in comparison with a hood made entirely of aluminum.
The invention can be practiced, for example, as follows. The displacement means 8 are herein initially arranged on the upper part of the frame 2 of the greenhouse 1. Subsequently, the beam 10 is movably suspended from the displacement means 8, the beam 10 carrying the lamps 6 and the shielding cap 7. When illuminating the crop 4, the height between the cover cap and the crop is adjusted to the growth stage of the crop. The device 5 for illuminating the crop is also moved longitudinally over the crop in order to be able to illuminate the crop uniformly and completely.
Because changes and modifications within the scope of the invention, as determined by the appended claims, can be quickly recognized and realized by a person skilled in the art, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the preferred embodiment which has been described above. described. Furthermore, the aforementioned technical measures can also be very well applied individually or in any combination.
