Rear wheel suspension for a vehicle and vehicle equipped with it.
The present invention relates to a rear wheel suspension for a vehicle with at least two rear wheels and a chassis, wherein each of the two wheels is connected to a support arm, which is pivotally connected to the chassis, and wherein each of the two support arms is provided of a fluid spring element connected at one end to the support arm and connected at another end to the chassis, the fluid spring element being connected to a fluid reservoir. The invention relates in particular to a rear wheel suspension for an ambulance.
Rear wheel suspensions for vehicle wheels exist in a wide variety of types, each with their own strong and less strong characteristics.
In particular for utility vehicles, there is a need for a large useful space, such as the loading space for trucks and vans. For easy handling of loads, such as loading and unloading and also for facilitating people entering the loading space, it is desirable that the floor of the loading space be low, without thereby greatly reducing the ground clearance of the vehicle. This creates a need for a wheel suspension that requires only a small vertical installation space.
In a special category of such utility vehicles, where an ambulance can serve as an example, there is, in addition to the need for a low loading floor, the need for stable road holding. Ambulances regularly come in situations where speed is important and where the condition of the road is not always optimal. This almost inevitably leads to the choice of an independent wheel suspension. In addition, for the purpose of the load, in the case of an ambulance this concerns the patient or patients to be transported, the spring comfort must be of a high level.
Although these requirements are described with an ambulance in mind, they are by no means limited to this application. Also for transport of sensitive goods, either fragile, such as for instance glass, or otherwise sensitive to shocks, such as instruments or for example electronics, such properties are important.
For each of the aforementioned requirements separately, solutions are available in the prior art.
However, until now there is no wheel suspension that provides a good combination of the three aforementioned desired properties.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a wheel suspension for a vehicle of the type mentioned in the introduction, which has a small necessary installation height and provides good properties with regard to both the road holding and the spring comfort of the vehicle. vehicle.
This object is solved by a rear-wheel suspension according to claim 1. With such a rear-wheel suspension, the fluid moves during spring not only in the spring element, but also in the reservoir. As a result, virtually the entire stroke of the spring element can be utilized without the spring stiffness increasing excessively. It is therefore possible to use a relatively small spring element, whereby the installation height remains limited and yet the comfortable spring properties of a fluid suspension are retained. As a result, the good handling properties of an independent rear wheel suspension can be combined with the comfort of an air suspension and a low installation height.
It is structurally advantageous if the reservoir forms part of the carrying arm.
When the fluid consists entirely of air, a relatively simple construction is possible overall, because many standard components can be used for air suspension at relatively acceptable costs.
Because the effective volume of the fluid is determined by both the spring element and the reservoir, it is possible to suffice with a relatively simple spring element such as a bellows, which makes the overall construction more economical.
Good results are achieved when the content of the spring element and the content of the reservoir have a ratio in the range of 2: 1 to 1: 2. On the one hand, this ratio determines the spring travel, in particular on the length of the bellows, and, on the other hand, the natural frequency of the spring element and the reservoir depends on this ratio.
33
For a good spring comfort it is advantageous if the spring element and the reservoir are dimensioned such that an own frequency of the spring element and the reservoir is smaller than 1.5 Hz, preferably smaller than 1.2 Hz.
In a constructionally favorable embodiment of the invention, the carrier is at least partly designed as a box with a bottom, side walls and an upper surface, the reservoir being formed by the box. Hereby, the reservoir is integrated into the support arm, the box shape of the reservoir 10 contributing to the stiffness of the support arm, or in other words the necessary structural elements that are required to give the support arm sufficient rigidity, are simultaneously utilized for the formation of the support arm. reservoir.
When the spring element rests on the bottom of the box, a minimum installation height is achieved because the height of the box in this composition is not added to the height of the spring element, but rather partly overlaps.
When the side walls of the reservoir have a height of between 50 and 120 mm, a minimum installation height can be combined with maximum spring comfort for most rear wheel suspension applications.
A spring element fitting therewith preferably has a height of between 100 and 200 mm.
For the rear wheel suspension of the invention to function properly, it is important that the fluid can move freely between the spring element and the reservoir. If a connecting opening is provided between the spring element and the reservoir, the diameter of which corresponds approximately to the inner diameter of the bellows, it is ensured that the fluid can move freely between the spring element and the reservoir.
An extremely favorable construction is obtained when the underside of the spring element is connected at the circumference by means of a seal to the upper side of the reservoir, wherein the underside of the spring element is supported by means of at least three equally spaced support parts distributed over the bottom connected to the bottom of the reservoir. In this case the spring element can be placed very close to the bottom of the reservoir and the fluid can flow between the spring element 40 and the reservoir between these support parts.
44
However, if this opening is to be sufficiently large overall, the support parts must have a height of at least 2 mm.
With a vehicle provided with a rear wheel suspension according to the invention, a vehicle can be constructed that has a loading floor with a height that is less than 400 mm.
Due to the low conversion height, it is also possible for a loading floor of such a height to nevertheless realize a ground clearance under the wheel suspension that is at least 150 mm and a ground clearance under the floor that is at least 250 mm.
1.The invention will now be further elucidated with reference to an example of an embodiment, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 shows a diagrammatic perspective view of an embodiment of a rear wheel suspension according to the invention; and Fig. 2 shows a section through the line II-II of Fig. 1.
In fig. Door ope-35 ning 11 kan lucht vrij stromen tussen luchtveer 3 en doos 5.Fig. 1 shows an embodiment according to the invention of a rear wheel suspension for a wheel of a vehicle, generally indicated by 1, schematically in perspective. The rear wheel suspension for the other wheel is not shown, but is a mirror image of the suspension shown. The rear wheel suspension comprises a support arm 2 and an air spring 3 in the form of a bellows. The support arm is provided with two fixing eyes 4, 4 'for hinged attachment of the support arm to the chassis of the vehicle. The carrying arm is practically entirely in the form of a box 5, with a bottom 6, side walls 7, and a top surface 8. The air spring 3 is fixed at the top 9 to the chassis and at the bottom by means of a ring 12 connected to the upper surface 8 of the box 5, in a manner which will be described in more detail below. Through opening 11, air can flow freely between air spring 3 and box 5.
In order to confer rigidity on bearing arm 2, bearing arm 2 must in any case comprise one and preferably a few flat parts which are approximately perpendicular to the bottom 6. In this embodiment of the invention, these stiffening parts are formed by the side walls 7 of box 5. As a result without adding extra height to the carrying arm 2, a reservoir has been created for air from the spring system. Moreover, the air in the air spring 3 and the air in the reservoir are mutually in open communication with each other and form an amount of air that is compressed during spring-in and relaxed during the spring-out. In comparison with conventional air springs, this prevents the last part of the stroke of the air spring 3 provides a very progressively increasing stiffness, as with an air spring system according to the prior art, as a result of which that part of the stroke of the air spring becomes useless for a comfortable spring behavior. Since, upon compression, the pressure increase of the air 15 in the air spring 3 is also absorbed by the air in the box 5, the stiffness of the air spring 3 at the end of its stroke will not have increased unacceptably, so that the entire stroke of the air spring 3 useful for a comfortable spring behavior. This makes it possible to obtain an air spring 3 with a comfortable spring behavior and at the same time a small necessary installation height.
For obtaining a low natural frequency of the spring system, the air content of the air spring 3 is approximately equal to the content of the box 5. For allowing the air to flow between air spring 3 and box 5 as freely as possible, the air spring 3 is on the underside provided with an opening 11, the cross-section of which substantially corresponds to the cross-section of the air spring 3.
Air spring 3 is sealed to the upper surface 8 of box 5 with the aid of ring 12. It can be seen from Fig. 2 that at the location of the attachment of air spring 3 by means of ring 12 to upper surface 8, the upper surface 8 is closer to bottom surface 6 of box 5. This further lowers the installation height of wheel suspension 1.
Bolts 13 pass through bushes 14, which bottom side 6 pass through box 14 from box 5 and hold ring 12 fixed on top 40 surface 8. Buses 14 with thereby bolts 13 are arranged equally spaced over ring 12. The number of buses has been chosen in such a way that a good connection is also maintained during operation. The height of buses 14, and therefore the local internal height of box 5, is chosen as low as possible 5 in order to obtain the lowest possible mounting height for wheel suspension 1. However, the height of buses 14 must be chosen sufficiently large so that the flow of air during the spring action between air spring 3 and box 5 is not impeded. For this, the height of buses 14 must be at least 2 mm 10. The height furthermore depends on obstruction of the flow-through opening which is formed by the number and shape of bushes 14.
In a preferred embodiment, drainage openings are provided next to the cans 14, or as part thereof, so that water can flow away from the recessed cavity near ring 12 through box 5. These drainage openings are not shown in the drawing, but have essentially the same shape and attachment as cans 14.
In a characteristic example of an embodiment of a wheel suspension according to the present invention, which is suitable for, for example, an ambulance, with an axle load of 2000 kg, the height of the side walls 7 of box 5 is generally approximately 110 mm. The height of air spring 3 is 170 mm. The diameter of opening 11 is approximately 120 mm and the height of bushes 14 is approximately 7 mm, with a number of 8 bushes 14, spread over the circumference of ring 12.
As a result, an ambulance can be built in which the ground clearance under the wheel suspension is at least 150 mm and under the floor at least 250 mm, with a loading floor that has a height of less than 400 mm. The height of a standard fixed bus lock 35 is 120 mm, so that it becomes possible to build a comfortably suspended ambulance, with an independent wheel suspension according to the invention, with a ground clearance of more than 150 mm and a loading floor that is lower than 400 mm.
It will be clear that numerous modifications can be made to the embodiments of the invention described herein, all of which are within the scope of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
