Abstract

Et telekommunikasjonssystem har en grensesnittmekanisme for å overføre signalerings- hendelser mellom en sentral terminal (10) og en abonnentterminal (20) i telekommunika- sjonssystemet. Grensesnittmekanismen omfatter et signaleringselement (400) i den sentrale terminal (10) for å motta en første signaleringshendelse for overføring til abonnentterminalen (20) og ved å referere til et lagret sett av meldinger (410), å bestemme en første signaleringsmelding for koding av den første signaleringshendelse for overføring til abonnentterminalen. Videre omfatter mekanismen en signalerings- forvalter (460) i abonnentterminalen (20) for å motta den første signaleringsmelding fra den sentrale terminal (10) og ved å referere til det lagrede sett av meldinger (470), å dekode den første signaleringsmelding, for å bestemme den første signaleringshendelse. Signaleringsforvalteren er innrettet for også å motta en andre signaleringshendelse for overføring til den sentrale terminal (10) og for å kode den andre signaleringshendelse som en forutbestemt signaleringsmelding ut fra nevnte lagrede sett av meldinger (470), idet en parameter for den forutbestemte signaleringsmelding bringes til å inneholde informasjon som identifiserer typen av den andre signaleringshendelse. Et kjernesett av meldinger kan defineres for å representere alle de nødvendige signaleringshendelser som det kan være behov for å kommunisere mellom den sentrale terminal og abonnent- terminalen. Derved blir det antall biter som fordres for å definere hver melding forholds- vis lite, hvilket bidrar til å minske det båndbreddebenov som fordres for signalering.
