Abstract

A method and equipment for controlled cooling of extruded metal profiles (3), in particular extruded aluminum profiles, include an extrusion press (1) with a die (2) and one after the die (2) provided quench (5). The extruded profile (3) is, during the dead cycle interval, i.e. the interval between two extrusion cycles, subjected to controlled sequential cooling in the area between the quench (5) and die (2). The method of cooling is accomplished by means of a separate, special quench (4) that is provided between the press (2) and the quench (5).
