Abstract
Det er beskrevet et nytt tredoméne-gen fra Schizochytrium, betegnet karotensyntase, som koder for et protein med tre forskjellige enzymatiske aktiviteter: fytoen-dehydrogenase (PD), fytoensyntase (PS) og lykopencyklase (LC). Det isolerte gen som koder for karotensyntasen, homologer til dette, enzymet som kodes for av et slikt gen, biologisk aktive deler og homologer til dette, rekombinante nukleinsyremolekyler, mikroorganismer og planter som er blitt genetisk modifisert til å øke eller redusere virkningen av et slikt gen, samt metoder for frembringelse av karotenoider og derivater derav eller metoder for frembringelse av mikroorganismer og lipidprodukter som mangler pigmentering, under anvendelse av kunnskapen om karotensyntasen beskrevet her i dokumentet, er også beskrevet.
