Det er beskrevet fremgangsmåter og apparater for maksimalisering av effekt og spektraleffektiviteter i et trådløst kommunikasjonssystem. Oppfinnelsen er spesielt nyttig for lagdelte modulasjonsapplikasjoner siden effektnivåer for slike applikasjoner er relativt høye. Et lagdelt modulasjonssignal omfatter et øvre og nedre lagsignal som interfererer med hverandre innen det samme frekvensbåndet slik at det øvre lagsignalet kan bli demodulert direkte fra det lagdelte modulasjonssignalet, og det nedre lagsignalet kan bli demodulert etter subtrahering av det første lagsignalet fra det lagdelte modulasjonssignalet.
