Abstract

Oppfinnelsen angår et sigmareseptordefisient, mutant, ikke-humant pattedyr og anvendelser derav. Genomet av det ikke-humane, mutante pattedyr, defisient i en endogen sigmareseptor, inneholder en mutasjon som omfatter en disrupsjon i et endogent sigmareseptorgen, karakterisert ved at nevnte gendisrupsjon fører til en mutant som mangler påvisbare nivåer av endogen sigmareseptor. Mutanten kan brukes som et kontrolldyr for in vivo tester, så vel som en kilde av celler som kan anvendes i in vitro tester. Mutanter defisiente i sigma-l-reseptoren kan anvendes som modeller for in vivo studie av forstyrrelser av sentralnervesystemet, hukommelsesendringer, stresstilstander og medikamentavhengighet, analgesiprosesser og nevrobeskyttelse. Mutanter defisiente i sigma-2-reseptoren kan anvendes for å studere diagnostiske eller terapeutiske verktøy for å bekjempe kreft og/eller degenerative prosesser og/eller designe forbindelser i stand til å forebygge, redusere eller lindre den sekundære patologi forbundet med administrasjon av nevroleptiske midler.
