Abstract

Et ringformet tetningselement (12) for å tette mellom metallflater for bruk i flenser, sammenføyninger, pakninger og lignende, plassert i olje- og gassutvinning og produksjonsutstyr. Tetningselementet har indre og ytre metalldeformerbare plater (20, 22) sammenføyd ved ender (24, 26), som definerer et indre volum (30) fullstendig fylt med plastisk deformerbart materiale (28). Flatene er arrangert slik at ved kompresjon av elementet (12) fra endene (24, 26), vil elementet deformere på en kontrollert måte ved et utkragingsprinsipp. Fyllmaterialets (28) volum og det indre volumet (30) vil hovedsakelig forbli like under kompresjonen slik at delaminering ikke forekommer. Således tilveiebringer tetningselementet en tetning som kombinerer fleksibiliteten av elastomertetningen med integriteten av metall til metalltetning.
