Abstract
En fremgangsmåte for behandling av neurodegenerative tilstander tilveiebringes. Nervestamceller kan implanteres i et område med neurondegenerasjon og/eller i et område fjernt fra et område med neurondegenerasjon. Fremgangsmåtene kan omfatte isolering av nervestamceller fra områder hvor spesifikke typer av neuroner som tilsvarer neuronene som skal erstattes dannes. Fremgangsmåtene kan omfatte isolering av nervestamceller som utskiller vekstfaktorer som påvirker vekst og/eller regenerasjon av spesifikke typer av neuroner. I foreliggende oppfinnelse beskriver vi en fremgangsmåte for behandling av slike forstyrrelser, innbefattet flere neurodegenerative forstyrrelser som skyldes mangel på celler som danner spesielle neurotransmittere i nervenettverket, ved transplantasjon av eksogent dyrkede og ekspanderte neurale progenitorceller som etter transplantering i et nervevev differensierer til neuroner som kan integreres og som danner neurotransmittere i tilstrekkelige mengder, og på en måte som er tilstrekkelig til å overvinne symptomene forbundet med neurodegenerasjonen.
