Abstract

Luftfartøyet innbefatter både propulsjonsenheter (7, 16, 17) for konvensjonell flyvning i atmosfæren og for fremdrift som en rakett i større høyder. Luftfartøyet er delt i et lasterom (8) og et rom (13) som i hovedsaken inneholder brennstoff for rakettpropulsjonsenhetene. Fartøyet har en lang og tverrgående vinge (3) med liten pilform, for derved å få gunstig løft i de tette lagene i atmosfæren samtidig som det blir mulig å stige til store høyder med subsonisk hastighet før rakettpropulsjonsenhetene tas i bruk. Returreisen gjennomføres som en glideflukt eller styrt på samme måten som for et konvensjonelt fly.
