Description
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a carpet tile with a hard bottom, where the stresses are released, so that the carpet tile will lie flat without wrinkles or bulges when it is laid on a floor.
Other purposes and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following description of the preferred embodiment of the invention in connection with the drawing, where: Figure 1 shows a punching device used for slitting the hard bottom of carpet tiles, Figure 2 is a perspective view of part of a punching tool used in the invention, Figure 3 schematically shows a ground plan of the punching tool used in the invention, and Figure 4 is a perspective section of a hard floor carpet tile with a section for relieving the tension in the carpet tile.
Reference is first made to Figure 4, where a portion of a carpet tile 10 is shown, which mainly consists of a number of pile yarns 12 which, with their bottom ends, are embedded in a normally relatively dense binding layer 14, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, so that these are firmly anchored to the surface of the bottom cloth material 16. Another polymeric bottom material 18 is glued to the bottom surface of the bottom cloth material 16, hereinafter referred to as "hard back", and which can also, if desired, consist of hardened polyvinyl chloride.
As briefly discussed above, when using harbun carpet tiles, you will be faced with the problem that some tiles will not lie flat after laying, as a result of internal stresses that cause the tile to bulge. To remedy this situation, the carpet tile cutting machine is used, which in figure 1 is generally indicated at 20, to produce a number of cuts in the hard bottom plate 18 for the carpet tile 10. The carpet tile cutting machine 20 comprises a stand 22 on which, by means of suitable bolts 24 is bolted a support frame 26 on which is mounted the support element 28 as well as a number of upright bar or column elements 30 which are held together in the top parts by cross bars 32. Slideably mounted on the columns 30 is the pressure surface 34 which cooperates with the punching tool 36 which is mounted on the support element 28. Also mounted on the cross bars 32 is a pneumatically or hydraulically actuable piston 38 with piston rod 40 connected to the pressure surface 34.
When using the machine described above, the carpet tile 10 is placed on the punching tool 36 on the support element 28 with the hard bottom surface facing downwards. The piston 38 is activated so that the pressure surface 34 is pushed downwards and presses the tile 10 against the punching tool 36. The pressure surface 34 and the punching tool are held in cut engagement with the carpet tile 10 for approximately one to two seconds under a pressure of approx. 17.5 kg/cm 2 for designing incisions in the hard base plate 18 for the carpet tile 10. The pressure surface is then raised, the carpet tile is removed, a new carpet tile to be cut is placed in the cut position and the procedure is repeated..
Ved betraktning av figur 2 og 4 vil det forstås at korrugeringenes høydepunkter 44 trenger inn i hardbunnplaten til en dybde nær inntil bunnduklaget In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the punching tool consists of a series of corrugated, fluted cutting elements 43 which form a shape as shown in figures 2 and 4. When considering figures 2 and 4, it will be understood that the high points 44 of the corrugations penetrate into the hard bottom plate to a depth of up to the base fabric layer
16, while the other parts of the corrugated surface get a smaller penetration depth, so that the desired incisions in the hard bottom plate 18 are achieved for relieving internal stresses without dividing or delaminating the bottom material. Not only do the punch tool's corrugations produce a pleasing surface effect on the base plate, but they also eliminate straight-line cutting of the hard base plate.
In a preferred embodiment, the punching tools as shown in figure 3 are mutually arranged in such a way that they form a grid or grid where the distance between adjacent parallel punching tools at the edge of the carpet tile is smaller than the distance inwards on the carpet. It has been found that such a distance distribution provides a more effective stress relief pattern than if the distance between all parallel adjacent punching tools were the same.
The punching tool can be produced in many different ways, many of which include the production of long continuous corrugated elements of the same length or width as the pressure surface 34 and embedding these in the plate. The punching tools in the opposite direction are then made in short lengths and fitted between and perpendicular to adjacent long lengths. Conversely, the punching tool can consist of all the small individual segments in a joined state and embedded in the pressure plate 34 so that they form the punching pattern shown in figure 3.
It will be clear from the above that an apparatus and a method have been arrived at here that simply and effectively provide a carpet tile where the hard bottom plate is provided with incisions for relieving internal stresses, so that the carpet tile does not form bulges when laid on a floor.
