Et fluidisert skikt av partikler av et tungtsmeltelig og fortrinnsvis katalytisk materiale frembringes inne i reaksjonskammeret,. og plasmaet og naturgassen eller det eller de lette alkaner innfores i skiktet, slik at skiktet avstedkommer kjøling av reaksjonsblandingen og katalyserer omdannelsesreaksjonen.
