Abstract

Dataene blir fortrinnsvis gjengitt og vist i et tidsområdeformat for å muliggjøre visuell sammenligning over et valgt tidsintervall.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for determining that a drill string (17) in a wellbore (29) is subjected to jamming against a surface in the wellbore. When characterized as a method, the method steps (1) include monitoring a vibration characteristic of the drill string (17) during drilling operations, and (2) comparing the vibration characteristic with at least one prior vibration characteristic to detect imminent jamming. In the preferred embodiment, the vibration amplifier is monitored to detect drop in amplitude, indicating impending pipe jamming. Vibration data is preferably subjected to a stabilizing sludge processing operation which reduces the adverse effect of noise and normalizes data to facilitate comparison with earlier time periods. The data is preferably reproduced and displayed in a time range format to allow visual comparison over a selected time interval.
