Partikler, spesielt kolloidale partikler, omfattende en indre fase bestående av en ikke-lamellær, reversert, kubisk, intermediær eller heksagonal, flytende krystallinsk fase, eller en homogen L3-fase, og en overflatefase bestående av en lamellær, krystallinsk eller flytende krystallinsk fase, eller en L3-fase.En fremgangsmåte for fremstilling av slike partikler ved å danne en lokal dispergerbar fase inne i den homogene fase, fortrinnsvis ved hjelp av et frag-menteringsmiddel, og fragmentering av den homogene fase for å danne overflate-fasen.
