Abstract
En ultralyd avstandsmåler for bruk ved måling av den øyeblikkelige avstandsdlstanse (SD) mellom borestrengen (20) og borehullets vegg (24) under boring. En primær transduser (40) som er montert på vektrøret sender og mottar ultralydpulser mellom vektrøret og borehullveg- gen. En andre, referansetransduser (46) som er montert på trykkfatet (44) innenfor vektrøret måler lydhas- tigheten av borefluidumet. Borefluldumet strømmer gjennom en kanal (28) innenfor vektrøret, der refer- ansetransduseren sender en puls gjennom borefluidumet i kanalen. Pulsen fra referansetransduseren reflekteres vekk fra en innvendig reflektor (50) som er montert på den innvendige overflaten av vektrøret. Ettersom avstanden mellom referansetransduseren og reflektoren er kjent og konstant, blir lydhastigheten av borefluid- umet (36) bestemt nøyaktig. Elektronisk krets (42) anvender lydhastighetsmålingen av borefluidumet som bestemmes av referansetransduseren (46) til å beregne nøyaktige verdier for avstandsdistansen. Den elektron- iske krets kompenserer også for variasjonene i trykk, temperatur og andre karakteristika for borefluidumet, samt for var lanser i avstandsdistansen.
