Abstract
I et multibærersystem er det alltid et behov for å ut- bytte kontrollinformasjon mellom en sender og en mottaker. Denne informasjon genereres i mottakeren og termineres i senderen. Denne informasjon inneholder data over de øye- blikkelige karakteristika for kanalen, og informasjon om systemforandringsavgjørelser som er nødvendig for å behandle forandringene i kanal-karakteristika. I systemer som anvender bit-lastingsteknikker tilpasses eller reguleres antallet transmitterte bits pr. symbol til signal-til-støy-forhold (SNR) av den aktuelle bærerbølge. Denne regulering innvirker dynamisk, i tid, på systemets totale båndbredde. Denne variasjon i båndbredde fører til et absolutt systemkrav for synkron konfigurasjon av senderen og mottakeren, i termer av antallet kodete/ dekodete bits pr. symbol og bærerbølge. Dersom dette krav ikke oppfylles vil systemet ikke være i stand til å opp- rettholde en forbindelse.
