En radiomottager realiserer behandling ved mottagning og demodulasjon ved hjelp av programvareutøvelse. Således kan den mottagende og demodulerende prosessering av kommunikasjonsbølger som har forskjellige bølgeformater utføres ved å endre et mot- tagende og demodulerende program tilsvarende målkommunikasjonsbølgen ved å bruk en eneste felles maskinvarestruktur. Dataendringer med hensyn til kommunikasjons- bølgeformatet eller ankomsten av en ny kommunikasjonsteknikk kan også håndteres ved å endre eller legge til et program.
