Abstract

The decorticator complex of this utility model enables the more efficient extraction of coir from coconut husk. Husk materials need to be passed through prior art decorticators two to three times before coir of acceptable quality is produced. By incorporating a husk shredder-crusher in this utility model the husk is converted to a form which is more suitable to decortication; the crushed husk shreds are fed to the decorticator only once to extract coir of acceptable quality. Moreover, the decorticator rotor is modified to process a more homogeneous material in the form of crushed husk shreds, in contrast to prior art decorticators which must deal with raw husks and husk shreds. The husk material is subjected to lighter impact forces; more long fibers are recovered and less energy is consumed.
