METHOD OF MAKING DISPLAY ORNAMENT
AllD PRODUCT MADE THEREFROM
The present invention relates generally to artificial articles used as display for special occasion, such as christmas and more specifically to display ornament and method of making such display ornament.
Display ornaments has been very famous specially during special occasions, such as Christ- mas time. Said display ornaments comes in various different ornamental forms, such as christmas trees, vine-like display foliages, etc. With regards to artificial christmas tree which is the plastic moulded type where the leaves simulate the real leaves of the spruce pine tree which is regarded as one of the main symbolic signs of the Christmas season. Said plastic moulded-type of Christmas tree comes in various forms and colors where the leaves are in the form of dense . prickled thick folliages removably held on the stem- like members being fitted to the body of the artificial tree trunk. Such artificial christmas tree has been widely used during such special occasion ob \ < and has been proven to really light up the christmas atmosphere in every family home. However, manufac- - turing of such artificial ornament has been observed to be somewhat costly and laborious to do for the reason tht costly moulding machines and various moulds must be used. The manufacture of said artifi- cial tree is also very costly in terms of electricity and cost of plastic material.
In view thereof, it is therefore the primary object of the present invention to provide a method of making a display ornament which can remedy the above-drawbacks and wherein the product being produced thereof is very much the same with the real christmas or spruce pine tree.
Another object of the present invention is to provide display ornament wherein the basic components used are indegenous materials, thus, rendering it to be very cheap to produce.
Still another object is to provide a method of making display ornament wherein the steps involved i.
in producing the product are very simple to follow and does not require the costly complicated machines and mould as in the case of the prior art.
Other objects and advantages of the present >) jnvention will be apparent upon reading the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is an illudtrative representation of the different steps involved in the present invention.
The basic and principal component of the present jnvention is natural buri palm. The collumn or the simulated tree-trunk being used in the present inven- tion is preferably made of solid bamboo, black iron and the like, the rib or stem holder is made out of plastic or resin, and the leaves or tips are made out of twisted buri palm fibers and the like.
To prepare the aforesaid buri palm fibers for use as decorative articles such as leaves of a td? simulated christmas tree, the buri leaf is first remove from the limp or stalk of buri fiber tree and cut this into desired lengths, preferably 20 to 22 inches each. The hard outer skin of the limp or stalk pieces are then removed or stripped. The limp pleces are then dropped in sea water and keep them submerged thereto for a predetermined period of time, preferably one-three months, to make them soft and have them absorb the natural "insecticide" provided by sea water. The pteces are then pounded to a pulp to separate the fibers. The fibers are then dip in a softening means, such as glycerine - water mixture.
The mixture is preferably one liter of glycerine to one gallon of water for ten kilos of fibers. Such dipping of the fibers to said softening means is required so that a soft, finer and pliable fibers with the feel of silk could be produced. The fibers are then bleached or dyed and then dried in the sun to achieved the simulated evergreen leaf color or a simulated frost covered christmas tree leaf. The fibers are then cut into smaller lengths, preferably 6" long to make "pine needles". The cut fibers are then soak in fire retardant chemical and then dried lyn gett into a shade. This is needed to make it fire-proof in as much as buri palm fibers are usually flammable due to its nature. The ratio of the fire retardant : is preferably one gallon of fire retardant for every 4 1/2 kilos of fibers.
To make the simulated stem 11 of the fibers, a fine steel wire is covered with colored sheet, such as paper and the like 12, simulating the color of pine twigs or stems. The fine wire must be preferably 18 inches long to provide a proportioned twig or stem size with the height of the tree. !The fibers are then inserted between at least two of the fine wires and are evenly arranged thereto. The wires are then twisted by means of a twisting means to hold said fivers like prickles pointing to different directions throughout the entire length of the twisted wires.
The resulting pine twigs are made into sprays, garlands, wreaths, or formed into branches to be attached to the trunks of a Christmas tree.
Said pine twigs maybe fixedly connected to a centrally disposed leaf with longer rib portion to eit form one complete foliage 15 having rear protruding end 16. Said assembled foliage 15 maybe anchored spacedly to a simulated tree trunk, preferably made of bamboo, black iron and the like materials, through anchoring means 16 provided spacedly at the entire length thereof.
The disposition of said foliages in the tree trunk may assume a spruce or pine tree-like form or other tree-like forms.
Claims (5)
1. A method of making display ornament sil! hristmas tree and the like comprising the steps of: 8) removing the buri leaf from the stalks of a buri fiber tree; b) stripping from the stalk pieces its hard outer skin; c)- submerging the stalk pieces in sea water ‘ for a definite period of time; d) pounding the stalk pieces to a pulp to separate the buri fibers; e) dipping the fibers into softening means to soften and achieve a finer and more pliable . fibers; f) bleaching and dying the softened fibers; g) cutting the fibers to make fine needles; h) soaking the cut fibers into fire retardant and drying them in a shade; i) holding the fibers in-between colored sheet-covered twisted fine wires like prickles pointing to different directions throughout the entire length of the twisted qu (HW wires to form pine twig~like leaf which could be attached to a display tree trunk.
2. A method of making display ornament such as christmas tree and the like according to claim 1 wherein said submerging of the stalks is done for at least one to three months. "

4. A decorative article for attachment to a decorative tree trunk comprising: buri palm fibers being held by a plurality of twisted steel wires in a manner simulating a pine tree leaf, and colored sheet covering said steel wires.
