Sposród wymienionych w schemacie zwiazków o wzorze ogólnym 4 znane sa: kwas 3-clilorotiofenokarboksylowy-2 i kwas 4-bromotiofenokarboksylowy-3, przy czym pierw¬ szy znichwytwarza sie w stosunkowoskomplikowany sposób. Chociaz do wytwarzania zwiazku o wzorze ogólnym 5 mozna w zasadzie uzyc jako substancji wyjsciowej takze zwiazku bromu, np. znanego kwasu 4-bromotiofenokarbo- ksylowego-3, to jednak zaleca sie uzycie odpowiedniego zwiazku chloru. Przeprowadzenie zwiazku o wzorze ogólnym 5 w wolny kwas o wzorze ogólnym 6 odbywa sie w znany skadinad sposób, np. przy uzyciu mocnego wymieniacza jonowego. Estryfikacja kwasu o wzorze ogólnym 6 do estru o wzo¬ rze ogólnym 7 ma przebieg autokatalityczny (obecnosc grupy sulfonowej) w mieszaninie alkoholu i chloroformu. W celu utworzenia estru metylowego rozpuszcza sie kwas w mieszaninie metanolu i chloroformu i mieszanine reakcyjna ogrzewa sie do temperatury wrzenia azeotropu (metanol — chloroform — woda z reakcji). Uzyskany w ten sposób zwiazek o wzorze ogól¬ nym 10 poddaje sie cyklizacji w temperaturze 40—65 °C 45 w etanolu z etylanem metalu alkalicznego lub grupy ziem alkalicznych, zwlaszcza z etylanem sodu, do zwiazku o wzo¬ rze ogólnym 11, w którym R oznacza grupe etylowa. Reakcja ta odbywa sie korzystnie w temperaturze pokojo¬ wej. Przy stosowaniu soli addycyjnej z kwasem zwiazku o wzorze ogólnym 14 przeprowadza sie reakcje korzystnie w pirydynie. Zamiast soli addycyjnej z kwasem mozna jednak takze stosowac 2 mole wolnej aminy, w którym to przypadku przeprowadza sie reakcje najkorzystniej w dio¬ ksanie, chlorku metylenu, benzenie lub czterochlorku wegla. Zwiazki o wzorze ogólnym 1 maja dzialanie przeciwza¬ palne, przeciwbólowe i przeciwreumatyczne. P r z y k l a d I. PL PL PL PL PL PL PLThe subject of the invention is a method for preparing new thienothiazine derivatives of general formula 1, in which A forms with both carbon atoms a group of general formula 3 or 3a, and the dashed line indicates a double bond. In the case where A represents general formula 3, R1 represents a lower alkyl radical, R2 represents an aromatic heterocyclic group with 1-3 heteroatoms, optionally substituted with one or two lower alkyl radicals, or a phenyl radical, optionally substituted with a halogen atom, a hydroxyl group, a lower alkyl radical, a trifluoromethyl group or a lower alkoxy group, and R3 and R4 represent hydrogen atoms or lower alkyl radicals. The term "lower alkyl" as used herein denotes linear or branched hydrocarbon radicals having 1-4 carbon atoms, such as methyl, ethyl, propyl, isopropyl, tert. butyl, and the like. The term "lower alkoxy" refers to hydrocarbonoxy groups containing up to 4 carbon atoms. The term "halogen" refers to the four halogen atoms: chlorine, bromine, fluorine, and iodine. The term "aromatic heterocyclic radical with 1-4 hetero atoms, in particular substituted by one or two lower alkyl radicals" comprises radicals of five- or six-membered aromatic heterocycles with 1-4 nitrogen and/or oxygen and/or sulfur atoms, in particular substituted by one or two lower alkyl radicals, such as 2-thiazolyl, 4-methyl-2-thiazolyl, 4,5-dimethyl-2-thiazolyl, 5-methyl-1,3,4-thiadiazolyl, 2-pyrazinyl, 2-pyrimidinyl, 1,2,4-triazinyl-3,2-pyridyl, 3-pyridyl, 4-pyridyl, 3-methyl-2-pyridyl, 4-methyl-3-pyridyl, 5-methyl-1,3,4-thiadiazol ... 2-thiazolyl, 5-methyl-2-pyridyl, 6-methyl-2-pyridyl, 4,6-dimethyl-2-pyridyl, 5-isoxazolyl, 3-methyl-3-isoxazyl, 3,4-dimethyl-5-isoxazyl, 2,6-dimethyl-4-pyrimidinyl, 6-methyl-2-pyridyl, 1,2,3,4-tetrazol-5-yl and the like. In the most preferred class of compounds of general formula 1 R3 and R4 represent hydrogen atoms, R1 is most preferably a methyl radical and R2 is most preferably a 2-thiazolyl, 5-isoxazolyl or 2-pyridyl group. A particularly preferred compound is 4-hydroxy-2-methyl-N-2-thiazolyl-2H-thieno[2-3-e]-1,2-thiazine-3-carboxamide 1,1-dioxide. Thienthiazine derivatives of general formula 1 can be prepared according to the invention by reacting a compound of general formula 2, in which R is a lower alkyl radical and A, R 1 , R 3 and R 4 have the meanings given above, with an amine of general formula H 2 N - R 3 , in which R 2 has the meanings given above. The reaction according to the invention can be carried out in the presence or absence of an inert solvent. Suitable solvents include alcohols such as ethanol, etc., hydrocarbons such as benzene, toluene, xylene, etc., halogenated hydrocarbons such as chloroform, chlorobenzene, methylene chloride, carbon tetrachloride, etc., or dimethylformamide or dioxane. The reaction proceeds most advantageously on heating, the melting point of the reaction mixture or its reflux temperature being particularly preferred. The starting materials of general formula II required for the process according to the invention can be prepared according to the accompanying reaction scheme. In this scheme, Hal represents a halogen, R represents a lower alkyl radical, and A and Rt have the meanings given above. Among the compounds of general formula 4 mentioned in the scheme, the following are known: 3-chlorothiophene-2-carboxylic acid and 4-bromothiophene-3-carboxylic acid, the former being prepared in a relatively complicated manner. A simpler method for preparing 3-chlorothiophene-2-carboxylic acid consists in converting the known methyl 3-hydroxythiophene-2-carboxylate indirectly in an inert solvent with a boiling point above 50°C, such as chloroform or dioxane, with the aid of a chlorinating agent, such as phosphorus pentachloride, into 3-chlorothiophene-2-carboxylic acid chloride, which is then decomposed to the corresponding acid. *~In an analogous manner, substituted 3-chlorothiophene-2-carboxylic acids (compounds of general formula IVy in which Hal is a chlorine atom* and A together with both carbon atoms forms a group of general formula III, in which R3 and/or R4 is other than a hydrogen atom) can also be prepared. Although a bromine compound, e.g. the known 4-bromothiophene-3-carboxylic acid, can in principle also be used as a starting material for the preparation of a compound of general formula V, it is preferred to use the corresponding chlorine compound. 4-Chlorothiophene-3-carboxylic acid, which is described in the literature, can be prepared starting from the known methyl 3-ketothiophene-4-carboxylate by converting it with phosphorus pentachloride with simultaneous aromatization into 4-chlorothiophene-3-carboxylic acid chloride and then hydrolyzing the latter compound to the corresponding acid. Substituted 4-chlorothiophene-3-carboxylic acids (compounds of general formula 4, in which Hal is a chlorine atom and A forms with both carbon atoms a group of general formula 3a, in which R3 and/or R4 are other than hydrogen) can also be prepared in an analogous manner. The conversion of a halothiophenecarboxylic acid of general formula 4 into the potassium salt of a sulfothiophenecarboxylic acid of general formula 5 is carried out according to otherwise known methods by reacting the compound of general formula 4 with sodium acid sulfite in the presence of a cuprous salt used as a catalyst, especially in the presence of cuprous chloride, and reacting the resulting reaction product with potassium chloride. During the reaction with sodium acid sulfide, the temperature should be maintained at 143°C to obtain optimum yield. The conversion of the compound of general formula 5 into the free acid of general formula 6 is carried out in otherwise known methods, for example by using a strong ion exchanger. The esterification of the acid of general formula 6 to the ester of general formula 7 takes place autocatalytic (in the presence of a sulfonic acid group) in a mixture of alcohol and chloroform. To form the methyl ester, the acid is dissolved in a mixture of methanol and chloroform and the reaction mixture is heated to the boiling point of the azeotrope (methanol — chloroform — reaction water). The conversion of the compound of general formula I into the acid halide of general formula VIII is carried out in a manner known per se using a halogenating agent, preferably a chlorinating agent, such as thionyl chloride or phosphorus pentachloride. Chlorination with thionyl chloride can be carried out without a solvent by heating under reflux. When using phosphorus pentachloride, the reaction can be carried out in the presence of an inert solvent, such as chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, or dioxane, at a temperature of from 50°C to the boiling point of the reaction mixture. The compound of general formula (V) can also be prepared starting from the potassium salt of sulfothiophenecarboxylic acid of general formula (V) via a compound of general formula (V). For this purpose, the aforementioned potassium salt is reacted, for example, with 2 moles of phosphorus pentachloride in the presence of phosphorus oxychloride as solvent at a temperature of from 30° C. to the boiling point of phosphorus pentachloride. Instead of phosphorus oxychloride, however, an inert organic solvent such as dioxane, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, benzene, toluene, etc. can also be used. The esterification of the compound of general formula (V) to the corresponding ester of general formula (V) is carried out using a suitable alcohol, especially methanol, at temperatures from room temperature to reflux temperature. The same alcohol or an inert solvent such as chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, dioxane or benzene can serve as the solvent. From the intermediate of general formula (VIII), the starting product of general formula (II) can be obtained in two different ways. One of them leads via compounds of general formulas (XI) and (XI), the other optionally via a compound of general formula (XII) and a compound of general formula (XIII). The first of these methods consists in reacting the compound of general formula (VIII) in a manner known per se with glycine alkyl ester hydrochloride, most preferably with glycine ethyl ester hydrochloride. The reaction preferably takes place in the presence of an inert solvent such as pyridine, chloroform, dioxane, methylene chloride, benzene or carbon tetrachloride, at room temperature. The compound of general formula XI thus obtained is cyclized at 40°-65°C in ethanol with an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal ethylate, in particular sodium ethylate, to give the compound of general formula XI, wherein R is an ethyl group. Alkylation to the starting compound of general formula XI is carried out in a manner known per se, preferably in a polar, protic solvent such as dimethylformamide, dimethylsulfoxide or hexamethylphosphoric acid triamide, using an alkylating agent such as an alkyl halide or a dialkyl sulfate, at a temperature from 0°C to room temperature. The second of the mentioned methods consists in that the compound of general formula 8 is first aminoalkylated to a compound of general formula 12 and/or is directly converted to a compound of general formula 13. In both cases, the resulting compound of general formula 13 is cyclized to a compound of general formula 2. The aminoalkylation of the compound of general formula 8 is carried out in a manner known per se by reaction with an alkylamine in the presence of an inert organic solvent, such as chloroform, methylene chloride, carbon tetrachloride, benzene or dioxane, at room temperature. (106076) To prepare a compound of general formula XIII, the compound of general formula XIII thus obtained is reacted in a manner known per se in the presence of a polar, protic solvent such as dimethylformamide, dimethylsulfoxide or hexamethylphosphoric acid triamide with a compound of general formula X-CH2- -COO-R, wherein R has the meaning given above and X is a halogen atom. This reaction is preferably carried out at a temperature from 0°C to room temperature. Alternatively, a compound of general formula XIII is obtained in a manner known per se by reacting a compound of general formula XIII with a compound of general formula XIV, wherein R and R1 have the meaning given above, or with an acid addition salt thereof. This reaction is preferably carried out at room temperature. When using an acid addition salt of a compound of general formula XIII, the reaction is preferably carried out at room temperature. 14, the reactions are preferably carried out in pyridine. Instead of an acid addition salt, however, 2 moles of the free amine can also be used, in which case the reactions are most preferably carried out in dioxane, methylene chloride, benzene or carbon tetrachloride. The cyclization of the compound of general formula 13 to the starting compound of general formula 2 is preferably carried out at room temperature to 65° C., using an alkali or alkaline earth metal methylate or ethylate, most preferably sodium methylate or sodium ethylate, in the presence of methanol or ethanol. The compounds of general formula X-CH2-COO-R and of general formula 14 are known or can be prepared in an otherwise known manner. The compounds of general formula 1 have anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antirheumatic activity. These valuable pharmacological properties can be determined from using standard methods, e.g., the well-known kaolin-induced paw edema test (in rats). This test involves induced acute local inflammation in the right hind paw of a rat by subcutaneous injection of 0.1 cm3 of a 100% kaolin suspension (bolus alba). The test substance is administered orally, and the following parameters are measured: 1. Paw diameter in mm (as a result of the severity of inflammation); 2. Pressure (in grams) on the paw (to determine the pain threshold). 1/2 hour before and 3/2 hours after the kaolin injection, the test substance is administered, and 4 hours after the kaolin injection, the above-mentioned parameters are measured. The effect of inhibiting edema is expressed as a percentage, based on the difference in the intensity of edema between untreated and treated animals. tested; activity against pain reception is defined as a percentage increase in the pain threshold. In this test, 1,1-dioxyde 4-hydroxy-2-methyl-N-2-thiazolyl-2H-thieno[2,3-e]-1,2-thiazine-3-carboxamide [LD50 about 900 mg/kg, p.o. (in mice)] at a dose of 3 mg/kg p.o. shows 27 percent inhibition and 23 percent increase in the pain threshold. Compounds of general formula I have qualitatively similar "action" to phenylbutazone, which is known for its properties and therapeutic use. Compounds of general formula I can be used as medicinal agents, e.g. in the form of pharmaceutical preparations containing these compounds in a mixture with suitable for enteral or Parenteral pharmaceutical preparations may be in solid form, e.g., tablets, dragees, suppositories, capsules, semi-solid form, e.g., ointments, suspensions, or emulsions. In particular, they are sterilized and/or contain auxiliary substances, such as preservatives, stabilizers, or emulsifiers, salts for varying the osmotic pressure, or buffers. They may also contain other therapeutically valuable substances. The examples, in which all temperatures are given in degrees Celsius, illustrate the invention. Example I. 52.1 g of phosphorus pentachloride are dissolved in 600 cm3 of anhydrous carbon tetrachloride and heated to boiling, then a solution of 15.8 g of 3-hydroxy-2-methoxycarbonyl-thiophene in 200 cm3 of carbon tetrachloride is added dropwise within 3 hours. It is heated to reflux for 13 hours, then the carbon tetrachloride is distilled off and the reaction mixture is evaporated to almost dryness in a vacuum. Cooling 450 cm3 of water is added dropwise, then heated to boiling and left to cool. The precipitated product is filtered off and boiled in a solution of 25 g of sodium acid carbonate and 10 g of activated carbon, then the activated carbon is filtered off and The cooled solution is acidified with hydrochloric acid to obtain 3-chlorothiophenecarboxylic acid, melting at 185-186°C. In a glass autoclave, 8.6 g of 3-chlorothiophenecarboxylic acid are dissolved in 23 cm3 of water containing 2.1 g of sodium hydroxide, then a solution of 5.6 g of sodium hydrogen sulphite in 16 cm3 is added and made alkaline with 30% sodium hydroxide solution. Then 0.43 g of cuprous chloride is added and the mixture is heated for 16 hours at 143°C. After cooling, the red cuprous oxide is filtered off. Then it is acidified by adding 7 cm3 of concentrated hydrochloric acid, whereupon the unreacted starting substance precipitates and is removed by shaking with methylene chloride. - The acidic solution is heated and 12 g of potassium chloride is added. After cooling to 0°C, the potassium salt of 3-sulfothiophene-2-carboxylic acid separates in the form of colorless crystals. 8.2 g of the above sodium salt of 3-sulfothiophene-2-carboxylic acid is dissolved in 50 cm3 of water. This solution is passed through an ion exchange column in the acid form until the pH of the effluent solution is 5. The solution is evaporated in vacuo to dryness, and the crystalline residue, consisting of 3-sulfothiophene-2-carboxylic acid, is recrystallized from a small amount of water. 7.6 dissolves g of 3-sulfothiophene-2-carboxylic acid in 140 cm3 of anhydrous methanol and 65 cm3 of anhydrous chloroform and heated to boiling under reflux, while the water formed in the reaction is distilled off in the form of a triple azeotrope (chloroform, methanol, 60 water) through a packed column 1 m long. Then it is evaporated in vacuo. To remove traces of methanol, 100 cm3 of chloroform are added to the residue and evaporated under normal pressure. The residue, a brown oil consisting of methyl 3-sulfothiophene-2-carboxylate, crystallizes immediately on cooling. However, the crystals are hygroscopic and They deliquescent in air. 7.4 g of methyl 3-sulfothiophene-2-carboxylate are dissolved in 50 cm3 of thionyl chloride and heated under reflux for 16 hours. Evaporation is then carried out in a vacuum to dryness, after which the residue, a light yellow oil consisting of methyl 3-chlorosulfonylthiophene-2-carboxylate, is crystallized with petroleum ether. 20 g of methyl 3-chlorosulfonylthiophene-2-carboxylate are dissolved in anhydrous chloroform, and 21 g of sarcosine ethyl ester are added thereto for 10 minutes. The reaction mixture is heated to 50°C. After 20 minutes, it is cooled, shaken, and The mixture is washed once each with water, 0.5 N hydrochloric acid, and bicarbonate solution, dried, and evaporated. The oily residue, consisting of methyl 3-(N-ethoxycarbonylmethyl-N-methylsulfamoyl)-2-thiophenecarboxylate, is crystallized with ethanol; m.p. 84-85°C. A suspension of 13.2 g of methyl 3-(N-ethoxycarbonylmethyl-N-methylsulfamoyl)-2-thiophenecarboxylate in 42 cm3 of 1 N methanolic sodium metalate solution is prepared cold in a nitrogen current. After stirring for 15 minutes, a clear solution is formed. The mixture is heated under reflux for 20 minutes, then cooled, neutralized, and evaporated. The residue is dissolved in methylene chloride, shaken once with water and sodium bicarbonate solution, dried, and evaporated. The residue, consisting of 3-carbomethoxy-4-hydroxy-2-methyl-2H-thieno[2,3-e]-1,2-thiazine 1,1-dioxide, is crystallized with methanol; melting point 193-195°C. A suspension of 1.9 g of 3-carbomethoxy-4-hydroxy-2-methyl-thieno[2,3-e]-1,2-thiazine 1,1-dioxide and 0.9 g of 2-aminothiazole in 250 cm3 of anhydrous xylene is prepared and heated under reflux for 7 hours, and 150 cm3 is slowly distilled off. xylene. The remaining xylene is then distilled off in vacuo. The crystalline residue, consisting of 1,1-oxide-4-hydroxy-2-methyl-N-2-thiazolyl-2H-thieno[2,3-e]-1,2-thiazine-3-carboxamide, is recrystallized from ethanol; m.p. 217° (with decomposition). Example II. 50 g (0.203 mol) of the monopotassium salt of 3-sulfothiophene-2-carboxylic acid is suspended in 250 cm3 of phosphorus oxychloride and 85 g (0.406 mol) of phosphorus pentachloride is added with stirring, whereupon HCl is rapidly evolved. The mixture is then heated on a water bath with stirring for a further 90 minutes. Cool to room temperature, filter off the inorganic salts, and distill off the phosphorus oxychloride as best as possible in vacuo. The oily residue is dissolved in 400 cm³ of dry chloroform to remove any inorganic salts still present, filtered, and evaporated. The oily residue, consisting of 3-chlorosulfonylthiophenecarboxylic acid chloride, crystallizes after cooling. It is used without further purification in the next step. Dissolve 48 g (0.196 mol) of the 3-chlorosulfonylthiophenecarboxylic acid chloride thus obtained in 500 cm³ of anhydrous chloroform, add 9.6 g (0.3 mol) of anhydrous methanol, and heat under reflux for 3 hours. The mixture is then evaporated to dryness in vacuo, whereupon the residue, consisting of pure methyl 3-chlorosulfonylthiophenecarboxylate, crystallizes. The crude product can be used in the next step. Dissolve 43.5 g (0.18 mol) of the methyl 3-chlorosulfonylthiophenecarboxylate thus obtained in 450 cm³ of anhydrous chloroform and add dried methylamine at 10°C until a moistened pH paper indicates that the solution is alkaline. The reaction is then left for another 2 hours at room temperature to complete, the solution should remain alkaline. The reaction mixture is shaken with 500 cm³ of water and 500 cm3 of 5% sodium bicarbonate solution, the aqueous phases being shaken out once each time with chloroform. The combined organic phases are dried with sodium sulfate and evaporated. The crystalline residue is warm leached with ether for purification. Methyl 2-methylsulfamoyl-2-thiophenecarboxylate is obtained, melting at 115-122°C. 43.5 g (0.184 mol) of the methyl 3-methylsulfamoyl-2-thiophenecarboxylate thus obtained are dissolved in 400 cm3 of anhydrous dimethylformamide and this solution is added dropwise at 0°C to a stirred suspension of 4.5 g (0.187 mol) of sodium hydride in 50 cm3 of anhydrous dimethylformamide. within an hour. Then, 40 g of ethyl iodoacetate are dissolved, while cooling at 0-5°C, and added dropwise over 2 hours to 50 cm³ of anhydrous dimethylformamide and left for an hour to complete the reaction (until moistened pH paper shows pH 7-8). The mixture is then evaporated in vacuo, the residue is taken up in 300 cm³ of 0.5 N hydrochloric acid and 300 cm³ of methylene chloride, the organic phase is separated, the aqueous phase is shaken twice with a little methylene chloride, and the combined organic phases are shaken with two 100 cm³ portions of 5% sodium bicarbonate solution; the aqueous phases are shaken again each time with a little methylene chloride. The combined organic phases are dried with sodium sulfate and evaporated. The crystalline residue is purified by leaching with a small amount of cold ethanol. Methyl 3-[N-ethoxycarbonylmethyl]-N-methyl-sulfamoyl-2-thiophenecarboxylate is obtained, melting at 83-85°C. A cold suspension of 13.2 g (0.041 mol) of the methyl 3-[N-ethoxycarbonylmethyl]-N-methyl]-sulfamoyl-2-thiophenecarboxylate obtained in this way is prepared under nitrogen in 42 cm3 of a n methanolic sodium methylate solution, dissolving the whole within 15 minutes of stirring. The mixture is then heated under reflux for 25 minutes, cooled, neutralized with concentrated hydrochloric acid, and evaporated in vacuo. The residue dissolved in methylene chloride, shaken once with water and 5% sodium bicarbonate solution, dried and evaporated. The crystalline residue is leached with a small amount of methanol for purification. 4-hydroxy-3-methoxycarbonyl-2-methyl-2H-thieno[2,3-e]-1,2-thiazine-1,1-dioxide is obtained, melting at 193°-195°. This compound, as described in the last part of Example 1, can be converted by reaction with 2-aminothiazole to 4-hydroxy-2-methyl-N-2-thiazolyl-2H-thieno[2,3-e]-12-thiazine-3-carboxamide-1,1-dioxide, melting at 217° (from Example III. A suspension of 50 g (0.203 mole) of the monopotassium salt of 3-sulfothiophene-9-carboxylic acid is prepared in 250 cm3 of phosphorus oxychloride and 85 g (0.406 mole) of phosphorus pentachloride is added with stirring, during which HCl is rapidly evolved. The mixture is then heated for a further 90 minutes with stirring in a water bath, cooled to room temperature, the inorganic salts are filtered off and the phosphorus oxychloride is evaporated as thoroughly as possible in vacuo. The oily residue is dissolved in 400 cm3 of dry chloroform to remove any residual inorganic salts, filtered and evaporated. The oily residue, consisting of the acid chloride, is 3-Chloro-sulfonyl-thiophene-2-carboxylic acid chloride crystallizes on cooling; this product is used without further purification in the next step. 48 g (0.196 mmol) of the 3-chlorosulfonyl-thiophene-2-carboxylic acid chloride thus obtained are dissolved in 500 cm³ of anhydrous chloroform, 9.6 g (0.3 mmol) of anhydrous methanol are added and the mixture is heated under reflux for 3 hours until the evolution of HCl ceases. The product is then evaporated to dryness in vacuo, whereupon the residue consisting of pure methyl 3-chlorosulfonyl-thiophene-2-carboxylate crystallizes. The crude product can be used in the next step. 2.41 g (10 mmol) of the methyl 3-chlorosulfonyl-thiophene-2-carboxylate thus obtained is taken up in a solution of 2.41 g (10 mmol) of the methyl 3-chlorosulfonyl-thiophene-2-carboxylate. methyl 3-chlorosulfonyl-2-thiophenecarboxylate together with 1.53 g of sarcosine ethyl ester hydrochloride in 10 cm3 of anhydrous pyridine and stirred at room temperature. After 2 hours, this mixture is poured into 50 cm3 of ice-cold 2 N hydrochloric acid and extracted five times with 0.5 cm3 portions of methylene chloride. The combined organic phases are dried with sodium sulfate, filtered and evaporated. The crystalline residue is leached with a small amount of ice-cold ethanol. A suspension of 13.2 g (0.041 mol) of the thus obtained methyl 3-[(N-ethoxycarbonyl)-N-methyl]-sulfamoyl-2-thiophenecarboxylate is prepared in the cold under a nitrogen atmosphere. 42 cm3 of 1 N methanolic sodium methylate solution, dissolving the whole within 15 minutes of stirring. The mixture is then heated for 25 minutes under reflux, cooled, neutralized with concentrated hydrochloric acid, and evaporated in vacuo. The residue is dissolved in methylene chloride, shaken once with water and a 5% sodium bicarbonate solution, dried, and evaporated. The crystalline residue is leached with a small amount of methanol for purification. 4-hydroxy-3-methoxycarbonyl-2-methyl-2H-thieno[2,3-e]-1,2-thiazine-1,1-dioxide is obtained, melting at 193-195°C, which, as described in the last part of Example I, can be prepared by reaction with 2-amino- notiazole into 4-hydroxy-2-methyl-N-2-thiazalyl-2H-thieno[2,3-e]-1,2-thiazine-3-carboxamide 1,1-dioxide, melting point 217° (with decomposition). Example IV. A suspension of 12.03 g (0.05 mole) of methyl-2-3-chlorosulfonyl-thiophenecarboxylate and 7 g (0.05 mole) of glycine ethyl ester hydrochloride in 50 cm3 of anhydrous pyridine is prepared, and the whole thing dissolves within 30 minutes. The mixture is stirred for another 5 hours at room temperature and then the pyridine is distilled off. The residue is introduced into 50 cm3 of 2N hydrochloric acid and 50 cm3 of methylene chloride, the organic phase is separated, The aqueous phase is shaken four more times with small amounts of methylene chloride, the combined organic phases are washed with water and dried over sodium sulfate with the addition of activated carbon. After filtration, the mixture is evaporated; the oily residue containing methyl 3-(N-ethoxycarbonylmethyl)sulfamoyl-2-thiophenecarboxylate can be used in the next stage without further purification. To a solution of 1.38 g (0.06 mmol) of sodium in 200 cm³ of anhydrous ethanol is added at 40°C a solution of 9.22 g (0.03 mol) of the methyl 3-N-ethoxycarbonylmethylsulfamoyl-2-thiophenecarboxylate obtained above in 10 cm³ of ethanol and heated to 60-65°C. The mixture is stirred for a further for 2 hours at this temperature, then poured onto 100 cm³ of ice-cold 2 N hydrochloric acid and shaken repeatedly with small amounts of methylene chloride. The combined organic extracts are shaken with two 20 cm³ portions of 5% sodium acetate solution and then with four 25 cm³ portions of 5% sodium carbonate solution. By drying and evaporating the organic phase, 2.5 g of starting material can be recovered. The combined carbonate extracts are acidified with hydrochloric acid and shaken with methylene chloride. After drying with sodium sulfate, the solvent is distilled off, and the crystalline residue is leached with a small amount of ether. This gives 3-ethoxycarbonylmethyl-4-hydroxy-2H-thieno-1,1-dioxide. [2,3-e]-1,2-thiazine, melting point 148-150°. 1.93 g (7 mmol) of 3-ethoxycarbonyl-4-hydroxy-2H-thieno[2,3-e]-1,2-thiazine-1,1-dioxide are dissolved in 4 cm3 of anhydrous dimethylformamide and added dropwise at 0° over 30 minutes to a stirred suspension of 0.185 g (7.7 mmol) of sodium hydride in cm3 of anhydrous dimethylformamide; then stirring is continued for another hour at room temperature. To the sodium salt solution is added first 0.53 cm3 (1.2 g; 8.45 mmol) and after 30 minutes a further 0.25 cm3 (0.565 g; 4 mmol) of methyl iodide and left for one hour to stand. to complete the reaction. After distilling off the solvent, the residue is taken up in 30 cm3 of 0.5 N hydrochloric acid and 30 cm3 of methylene chloride, the organic phase is separated, the aqueous layer is shaken twice with small amounts of methylene chloride, the combined organic extracts are dried over sodium sulfate and evaporated. The crystalline residue is leached with a small amount of cold ethanol. 3-ethoxycarbonylmethyl-4-hydroxy-2-methyl-2H-thieno[2,3-e]-1,2-thiazine-1,1-dioxide is obtained, melting point 161-163° (crystalline transformation at 151-152°). In an analogous manner to that described in the last part of Example 1, this product can be prepared with 2-amino- thiazole to 4-hydroxy-2-methyl-N-2-thiazolyl-2H-thieno[2,3-e]-1,2-thiazine-3-carboxamide 1,1-dioxide with a decomposition point of 217°. Example V. To a boiling solution of 100 g of phosphorus pentachloride in 250 cm3 of anhydrous carbon tetrachloride is added dropwise over 2 hours a solution of 25 g of methyl 3-ketothiophene-4-carboxylate in a small amount of anhydrous carbon tetrachloride. Then, the mixture is heated under reflux for 15 hours until the evolution of hydrogen chloride ceases, after which it is evaporated in vacuo, driving off most of the phosphorus chloride. The residue is stirred for one hour with ice cold. The organic phase is separated by evaporation, followed by washing with water, and the organic phase is then separated. The aqueous phase is again shaken with methylene chloride, and the combined organic phases are dried with sodium sulfate and then evaporated. The residue, a brown oil consisting of 4-chlorothiophene-3-carboxylic acid chloride, is heated with 2 N aqueous sodium hydroxide solution at 50°C until a homogeneous brown solution is formed. This solution is then shaken once with methylene chloride and 100% concentrated hydrochloric acid, after which the precipitated crystals consisting of crude 4-chlorothiophene-3-carboxylic acid are filtered off. For purification, the precipitated crystals are dissolved in sodium bicarbonate solution and precipitated with concentrated hydrochloric acid. The melting point after recrystallization from water is 164°C. In a glass autoclave, 8.6 g of 4-chlorophosphorethiocarboxylic acid are dissolved in 23 cm³ of water containing 2.1 g of sodium hydroxide. A solution of 0.6 g of sodium bisulfite in 16 cm³ of water is then added, and the solution is made alkaline with 30% sodium hydroxide solution. Then 0.43 g of cuprous chloride is added and heated for 16 hours at 143°C. After cooling, the red cuprous oxide is filtered off. The filtrate is acidified by adding 7 cm3 of concentrated hydrochloric acid, whereupon unreacted starting material precipitates and is removed by shaking with ether. 12 g of potassium chloride is added to the acidic solution while heating, and after cooling to 0°C, potassium 4-sulfothiophene-3-carboxylic acid is separated in the form of colorless crystals. These are dissolved in 50 cm3 of water, and the resulting solution is passed through an ion exchange column in the acid form, rinsing with water until the pH of the effluent is 5. The eluate is evaporated to dryness in vacuo, thus obtaining 4-sulfothiophene-3-carboxylic acid as a crystalline residue. Melting point 154° (after crystallization from water). 7.6 g of 4-sulfothiophene-3-carboxylic acid in 140 cm³ of anhydrous methanol and 65 cm³ of anhydrous chloroform are heated to reflux, and the water formed in the reaction is distilled off in the form of a triple azeotrope (chloroform, methanol, water) through a 1 m packed column. The mixture is then evaporated in vacuo. To remove traces of methanol, 100 cm³ of chloroform is added to the residue, and the solution is then evaporated under normal pressure. The residue, a brown oil* consisting of methyl 4-sulfophenecarboxylate, crystallizes immediately on cooling in the form of hygroscopic crystals that deliquescent in air. Dissolve 7.4 g of crude methyl 4-sulfothiophenecarboxylate in 50 cm³ of thionyl chloride and heat to reflux for 16 hours. It is then evaporated to dryness in vacuo, and the light yellow oily residue, consisting of methyl 4-chlorosulfonyl-thiophenecarboxylate, is crystallized with petroleum ether. M.p. 11° (from petroleum ether). Dissolve 50 g of methyl 4-chlorosulfonyl-3-thiophenecarboxylate in 500 cm3 of anhydrous chloroform. Add dried methyl amine with cooling until a water-moistened indicator paper shows a remaining basic reaction. The precipitated methyl amine chloride is removed by shaking with water. The organic phase is dried and evaporated. A light yellow oily residue consisting of methyl 4-(N-methylsulfamoyl)-3-thiophenecarboxylate crystallizes immediately. Melting point 142°. Dissolve 46 g of methyl 4-(N-methylchlorophenyl)thiophenecarboxylate in 450 cm3 of dimethylformamide. Cool the solution to 0°C and add 1 g (20% excess) of sodium hydride, rapidly evolving hydrogen gas. Warm the solution slowly to room temperature and add 32.6 g of dried potassium iodide and 21.3 g of methyl chloroacetate. The temperature rises to 46°C and a white precipitate forms. The dimethylformamide is then evaporated, and the yellow oily residue is partitioned between 0.5 N hydrochloric acid and methylene chloride. The organic phase is shaken with sodium bicarbonate and water, dried, and evaporated. The yellow oily residue, consisting of methyl 4-(N-methoxycarbonylmethyl-N-methylsulfamoyl)-thiophene-3-carboxylate, crystallizes immediately. Melting point: 124°C (from ethanol). Add 41.6 g of methyl 4-(N-methoxycarbonylmethyl-N-methylsulfamoyl)-thiophene-3-carboxylate to 140 cm3 of 1 N sodium methylate solution and dissolve by boiling under reflux. The solution quickly changes color from yellow to dark red; after 20 minutes, the solution becomes cloudy due to the formation of a precipitate. The mixture is cooled, acidified, and evaporated in vacuo. The residue is taken up in methylene chloride and water; the organic phase is precipitated with sodium bicarbonate solution and water and then extracted with 0.5 N cold sodium hydroxide solution. Acidification of the aqueous sodium hydroxide solution gives 4-hydroxy-3-methoxycarbonyl-2-methyl-6-2H-thieno[3,4-e]-1,2-thazine-1,1-dioxide in the form of colorless crystals. Mp 190° (from methanol). A suspension of 0.9 g of 4-hydroxy:3-methoxycarbonyl-2-methyl-2H-thieno[3,4-e]-1,2-thiazine 1,1-dioxide together with 0.4 g of aminotazoyl hydroxy:100 cm3 of anhydrous xylene is prepared and heated under reflux for 4 hours, whereupon it is slowly distilled off. 70 cm3 xylene. The crystalline precipitate that precipitates from the cooled solution and consists of 4-hydroxy-2-methyl-N-2-t'azolyl-2H-thieno[3,4-e]-1,2-t'azinO-3-carboxamide 1,1-dioxide is filtered off. Melting point after crystallization from ethanol 243^-245 ° (with decomposition). Example VI. A suspension of 94.6 g (0.384 mol) of the monopotassium salt of 4-sulfothiophenecarboxylic acid-3 is prepared in 390 cm3 of phosphorus oxychloride, and 160.8 g (0.768 mol) of phosphorus pentachloride is added with stirring, during which HCl is rapidly evolved. The mixture is then heated in a water bath with stirring for a further 3 hours, the inorganic salts are filtered off, and the phosphorus oxychloride is distilled off as thoroughly as possible in vacuo. The residue is dissolved in 400 cm3 of dry chloroform to remove any inorganic salts still present, filtered, and evaporated. The residue, consisting of 4-chlorosulfonyl-thiophenecarboxylic acid chloride, crystallizes on cooling and is used without further purification in the next step. 44.1 g (0.18 mol) of the 4-chlorosulfonyl-thiophenecarboxylic acid chloride thus obtained are dissolved in 450 cm3 of anhydrous chloroform, 9.6 g (0.3 mol) of anhydrous ethanol are added, and the mixture is heated under reflux for 9 hours until no further precipitation occurs. The mixture is then evaporated to dryness in vacuo, whereupon the residue crystallizes.
