The essence of the drilling mud according to the invention, consisting of an aqueous bentonite suspension and low viscosity carboxymethyl cellulose, consists in the fact that it contains sodium hydroxide in an amount from 0.2 to 0.5% by weight and acids or their salts which have 4 to 10 carbons in their chain and at least two carboxyl groups in an amount of 0.1 to 1% by weight. The advantage of drilling mud according to the invention is the improvement of wall durability An exemplary drilling mud according to the invention is a drilling mud consisting of a 2% aqueous bentonite suspension in an amount of 98.46% by weight and a low viscosity carboxymethyl cellulose in an amount of 1% by weight, from sodium hydroxide in the amount of 0.21% by weight and with adipic acid of the formula HOOC (CH24 COOH, in an amount of 0.33% by weight). a compound consisting of an aqueous bentonite suspension and low viscosity carboxymethyl cellulose, characterized in that it contains sodium hydroxide in an amount of 0.2-0.5% by weight and acids or their salts, which have 4-10 carbon in their structure in the chain and at least two carboxyl groups in an amount from 0.1 to 1% by weight.
