Description of the invention

The invention relates to a plastic cage, in particular a bottle cage, provided with at least one handle.

A plastic cage is known from the prior art, provided with handle openings located in two opposite longitudinal and / or transverse vertical side walls and including a bottom part with partitions on which the bottles are placed.

In this case, the part of the wall above the grip opening forms the actual grip.

A cage is also known, the handle of which is placed in the center.

Such a handle is usually in the shape of a buckle, projecting or not projecting above the side walls.

In all such known cages, the handle is made of the same plastic as the rest of the cage. The plastic material, usually polyethylene, is quite smooth so that the grip on the handle is not very secure.

For a better grip, the underside of the handle is usually provided with grooves or rounded finger recesses, however the improvement in the grip properties is nonetheless strictly limited.

The object of the invention is to provide a plastic cage with at least one handle, which does not have the above-mentioned drawbacks and allows a better grip, and the cage is easier to handle.

A plastic cage, in particular a bottle cage, comprising longitudinal and transverse side walls, a bottom part with partitions and at least one handle, according to the invention is characterized in that at least part of the handle surface where the hand is placed when lifting the cage is provided plastomer layer.

The plastomer is a copolymer of ethylene and octene.

Fig. 1 shows a bottle cage which, as usual, consists of a bottom 1, four vertical walls, namely two longitudinal walls 2 and two transverse walls 3, and partitions 4 at the bottom 1, which divide the cage into compartments for bottles.

The walls 2 and 3 can be single as well as double as shown in Fig. 1 and can include or form ribs or reinforcing columns 5.

In each of the two transverse walls 3 there is a grip opening 6 a short distance from the upper edge. It is characteristic that the part of the transverse wall 3 which is placed above the gripping opening 6 comprises a surface formed by the layer of plastomer 7 and thus forms the actual handle 9 together with this layer of plastomer 7. The plastomer is understood to mean an alkyne plastomer which can be classified as located between hard plastics such as polyethylene and rubber-like elastomers.

Their density is preferably between 880 and 915 kg / cm ³ , and their melting point is preferably between 70 and 110 ° C.

Plastomers are soft to the touch, and this is why they are called "soft-touch". They are flexible and strong, have a modulus of elasticity preferably between 20 and 150 MPa, resist creasing cracks, are easy to dye and are largely cold-resistant. They also have a narrow molecular weight distribution and a narrow comonomer distribution.

The plastomer from which layer 7 is made preferably belongs to the same family of plastics as the material from which the rest of the cage is made. A suitable plastic for the cage is polyethylene, where also a suitable plastomer is an octene and ethylene copolymer, in particular a metallocene copolymer of octene and ethylene, having a density between 880 and 915 kg / cm3, which has obtained its special properties by using the metallocene catalyst technology.

A suitable plastic for layer 7 is plastic which is designated by the Dutch company DEXPLASTOMERS, DSM / EXXON CHEMICAL, under the trade name "exact.

The part 8 of the wall 3 located above the handle opening 6 that forms the core of the actual handle is coated with a layer of plastomer 7. This layer 7 completely surrounds the part 8 and thus extends over the entire zone in which the hand is placed when grasping the handle 9.

This part 8 can be made slightly smaller than usual in such a cage, namely so that the layer 7 is embedded in the wall 3 and therefore does not protrude. Part 8 is made of a relatively stiff or hard material and is preferably unitary, as shown in Fig. 2, to make it solid. The color of layer 7 is different from the rest of the cage so that it can be used to distinguish the contents of the cage or for aesthetic reasons only.

The plastomer layer 7 may be injection molded on the portion 8. After the cage is injection-molded in the mold without the layers 7, the plastomer layers 7 of the handles are formed in the second mold by injection molding.

Alternatively, these layers of plastomer 7 may be injection molded as separate and then attached to the parts 8, for example by gluing or by mechanical joining. In the latter case, each layer of plastomer 7 can be provided with protrusions that can be pinched or snapped into the respective recesses of the part 8.

According to a further solution of the cage, the handles 9 can be located in the longitudinal side walls 2, or the cage can have these handles 9 both in the transverse walls and in the longitudinal side walls 2.

In addition to or instead of the handles 9 in the side walls 2 and / or 3, the cage may have a central clamp 10 in the shape of a buckle similar to the embodiment shown in Figures 3 and 4.

In such an embodiment, the portion of the handle 10 that is consistent with the base of the U-shaped clamp is completely coated with the layer of plastomer 7. The above-mentioned portion has not been reduced in this example, so that the plastomer layer 7 is an overlay layer and thus an overhang layer, although of course it is possible to embed this layer of plastomer 7 in the relatively hard material of the handle 10.

In all these solutions, the plastomer layer 7 gives a better grip and the cage is easier to handle. Since both the material of the cage core and the plastomer material are compatible with each other, being preferably polyethylene and polyethylene copolymer, these materials do not need to be separated when disposing of the used cage. The cage as a whole can be ground together with the plastomer and used for recycling.

The invention is by no means limited to the above-described embodiment shown in the drawings, and such a cage made of plastic material can be made in all kinds of variants permanently within the scope of the invention as described in the claims.

In particular, the layer 7 need not necessarily completely surround the parts of the upright wall located above the handle opening 6 in the case of the handle 9, nor the bottom of the staple in the case of the central handle 10. It is sufficient that this layer 7 is formed where the hands are placed to lift the cage. with the handle 9 or 10.
