Description

The subject of the invention is a method of manufacturing protective armor modules with high ballistic resistance, in particular for military vehicles, against multiple bullet penetration.

The hitherto known methods of creating gradient layers of armor protection modules of military vehicles consist in applying layers to the steel substrate by means of thermal spraying. In one application, the first bonding layer is typically pure aluminum sprayed onto a steel or aluminum plate, and successive cermet layers are sprayed over it, being a blend of aluminum powder and alumina with an oxide content increasing to 100% in the surface layer. There are also known applications where gradient layers are thermally sprayed with nanometallic alloy or cermets. The disadvantage of this method is, above all, the low mechanical properties of the connection with the ground, limiting the resistance to multiple bullets puncture. In the case of surfacing gradient layers of armor protection modules of military vehicles, layers of high hardness but low resistance to cracking and chipping are used, creating a large amount of undesirable fragments.

The method of producing the outer gradient layer of protective armor modules of military vehicles according to the invention consists in applying to the surface of an austenitic steel sheet, preferably with a thickness of 4.0-6.0 mm, by GMA welding with a wire made of aluminum or Al alloy. Mg, a multi-run single-layer padding weld, preferably with a thickness of 3-4 mm, which, as a result of a controlled share of the base metal in the padding weld, in the range of 20-40%, forms an Al-Fe-Ni-Cr alloy with a hardness in the range of 45-55 HRC , depending on the parameters and technique of surfacing. Then, the surface of the padding weld is thoroughly cleaned and the second layer of padding weld is applied using the GMA method with the same wire.

W celu dodatkowego zwiększenia plastyczności warstwy zewnętrznej zaleca się natryskiwanie cieplne warstwy z czystego aluminium lub stopu Ni-AI, korzystnie o grubości 1,5-2,0 mm.The method according to the invention creates a protective armor module with a layer of high resistance to multiple bullet penetration (multiple fire), very high adhesion to the substrate and high resistance to splitting, as a result of the application of topcoat application processes by GMA surfacing. The first layer, made of an Al-Fe-Ni-Cr type alloy, created as a result of the controlled mixing of aluminum with the austenitic metal of the substrate, is deposited by the GMA method on the austenitic steel substrate, and the second layer also covered with GMA with aluminum wire, with a minimum proportion of the base material, forms a with high plasticity and fracture toughness, thus preventing impact chipping under the influence of firing a very hard and brittle inner layer made of an Al-Fe-Ni-Cr alloy. In order to further increase the ductility of the outer layer, it is recommended to heat spray a pure aluminum or Ni-AI alloy layer, preferably 1.5-2.0 mm thick.

This method provides the possibility of making gradient layers with high ballistic resistance, with a thickness adjusted by the parameters of GMA surfacing and thermal spraying, meeting the established ballistic resistance criterion, characterized by a very high quality connection with the deposited substrate material (adhesion to the substrate), and at the same time resistance to flowing off in as a result of repeated impact of projectiles, unattainable with the previously used methods of creating gradient anti-ballistic layers. A very important advantage of the invention is a dozen or several times lower price of a solid wire made of technical aluminum or Al-Mg alloy in relation to special solid wires with flux-cored wires ensuring similar resistance to fire, and almost two times lower specific weight of an Al-Fe-Ni alloy. -Cr from the specific weight of hard layers based on iron, nickel or cobalt.

In order to obtain protective modules of armor of military vehicles with very high ballistic resistance, on a properly prepared surface of AISI 304 steel sheet with a thickness of 4.0 [mm], a multi-run single-layer padding weld with a thickness of 4-5 [mm] is welded using the GMA method with an aluminum wire, e.g. . from the alloy of AI-5 Mg. The linear energy of surfacing and the trajectory of the weaving movement of the torch are selected in such a way that the share of the base metal in the surfacing weld can be regulated with high accuracy in the range of 20-40%. In this way, the chemical composition of the Al-Fe-Ni-Cr alloy padding weld is regulated, with a very high hardness in the range of 45-55 HRC and very high ballistic resistance. After cleaning the surface of the multi-run padding weld, its surface is padded with the same wire made of the AI-5 Mg alloy with the same wire made of the AI-5 Mg alloy, or the outer soft layer with a minimum proportion of the base material, or a layer of approx. 1.5-2.0 thickness is arc sprayed with two wires of pure aluminum [mm], the purpose of which is to prevent the flaking of the Al-Fe-Ni-Cr alloy layer.
