Abstract

The invention relates to a plastic screw cap (3) with a cylindrical sealing ring (7) on the outer cylinder surface of which a sealing shoulder (8) is formed which is spaced from the bottom surface of the base plate (6) and which projects radially. Said sealing shoulder is sealingly forced against the inner wall (13) of a container opening when said opening is closed. If an overpressure builds up in the container, said sealing shoulder is lifted off from the inner wall (13) so that the overpressure can escape, thereby reliably preventing the container from exploding.
