Winter roads include sections that traverse ice cover and land. Ice sections are commonly referred to as ice roads and land sections as portages. The Tibbitt-to-Contwoyto winter road crosses about 350 km of lake ice and 50 km of portages. Nominally the speed limit onportages, for both loaded and empty trucks, is 30 km h-1.
