Sposób formowania rur kwadratowych, zwłaszcza cienkościennych prowadzi się tak, że w pierwszym etapie profil wyjściowy umieszcza się pomiędzy walcem kształtującym górnym (1) i walcem kształtującym dolnym (2) posiadającymi na każdej ze ścian profilu roboczego (3), od jednego naroża tego profilu roboczego (3) do jego drugiego naroża, wybranie w kształcie wycinka koła o promieniu (r) o wielkości od 2,8 do 4,8 razy większej od wysokości (a) kształtowanej rury.
