By diffusion the irritant, e.g. sulfuric acid, is gradually diluted, resulting in a certain distance from the resinous areas or in the places themselves, due to the acidification and slight drying of the outer zones of the wood, very favorable conditions for the development of fungi causing blue staining of the wood are created. These fungi thrive well in a slightly acidic environment, and therefore the wood of chemically resin-bonded trees turns blue so easily. The chemical agent according to the invention, thanks to its composition of fungicides with high diffusion velocity, prevents the development of fungi in acidified places susceptible to blueing. The fungicidal components of the irritating agent diffuse into the wood more rapidly than sulfuric acid and thus prevent the formation of conditions conducive to the growth of fungi in it.
