Description

1. Na fig. 2 i 3 podano dwie odmiany wykonania zwieracza regulowanego. Jak uwidoczniono na fig. 1 uklad pomiarowy sklada sie z rezonatora mierzonego 1 sprzezonego z odcinkiem toru w któ¬ rym przesuwa sie zwieracz 3. PL PLPublished: 25.VIII.1966 51668 KI. 21 a4, 71 MKP G 01 r Wllfc UKD BIBLIOTEK^ Inventor: Tadeusz Tarach Patent owner: Dosświadczalne Zaklady Lampowe "Lamina", Piaseczno near Warsaw (Poland) Method of measuring the external quality factor of microwave resonators and a device for using this method The subject of the invention is a method of measuring the external quality factor of microwave resonators, applicable e.g. in determining the coupling of a magnetron resonator with a microwave channel. The simplest method of determining the external quality factor is to measure the maximum slope of the phase curve taken by means of a measuring line with a gap. This method is laborious, not adapted to the needs of mass production and requires the use of an expensive measuring line. In mass production, the wobuloscopic method is used, ensuring rapid measurement by calibrating the device using resonators with known Q-factors. However, this method does not provide high accuracy and requires couplers with high directivity. In the method being the subject of the invention, the external Q-factor is determined by examining the resonance properties of a system consisting of the measured resonator 1 and an auxiliary resonator 2. The auxiliary resonator is obtained by shorting the circuit to which the measured resonator is coupled. This shorting is achieved using an adjustable short-circuit 3, which allows the resonance frequency of the auxiliary resonator to be changed. When the self-damping of the resonators is several times smaller than the coupling coefficient, the resonator system has two resonance frequencies. The difference between these two frequencies depends on the frequency of the auxiliary resonator. The minimum difference between these frequencies is inversely proportional to the square of the external quality factor. The measurement therefore involves measuring the minimum difference in the frequencies of the two resonances while tuning the auxiliary resonator 2. Using resonators with known quality factors, we scale the minimum frequency difference as a function of the external quality factor. The method being the subject of the invention allows for the elimination of a costly measurement line from the system and allows for cooperation with the fast wobuloscopic method without the use of additional devices such as a reflectometer or coupler. A diagram of the measurement system is shown in Fig. 1. Figs. 2 and 3 show two variants of the adjustable short-circuiter. As shown in Fig. 1, the measuring system consists of a measured resonator 1 coupled to a section of the track in which a short-circuiting switch 3 moves. The power to the auxiliary resonator 2 is supplied from the generator 4 through a separating damper 5 to the coupling loop 6. The measurements are made by observing the power level on the indicator 10 to which the power is supplied from the loop through a separating damper 9. The value of the resonant frequencies is determined using a wave meter 11. When using a short-circuiting switch with two loops as shown in Fig. 2, the indicator shows the maximum power at 30 resonances. When using the 20 25 5166851668 short-circuit device shown in Fig. 3, the minimum power occurs at resonant frequencies. If there is access to the resonator being measured, then two loops 7, 8 or one loop 6 can be placed in the resonator being measured. Alternatively, one of the loops 7, 8 can be placed on the short-circuit device and the other in the resonator being measured. PL PL
