Tadeusz Burzynski Patent owner: Warsaw University of Technology (Department of Precision Instrument Design, Warsaw (Poland) Braking system for glued tape - information carrier The subject of the invention is a braking system for glued tape - information carrier, especially punched paper tape in a high-speed reader. In previously known tape braking systems with direct braking of the tape by means of an electromagnet, one brake was used. If in the gap between the electromagnet and its armature at the moment of braking there is an overlapping or overlaying joint of the glued tape, the gap between the poles of the electromagnet and the braking armature increases, which causes a significant decrease in the force of attraction of the electromagnet armature and in turn causes a significant increase in the braking distance and time. The aim of the invention is to develop a braking system that allows the use of adhesive tape in the reader while maintaining the same braking time and distance as in the case of non-adhesive tape. This aim is achieved by using in the braking system according to the invention two known brakes coupled together and arranged relative to each other along the tape path at a distance greater than the usual length of the adhesive tape joint. The invention will be described below based on an example of its implementation shown in the attached drawing. The braking system consists of an electromagnet 1 and its armature 2 pressing the tape 5, constituting the first brake, and an electromagnet 3 and its armature 4, constituting the second brake. In the case of adhesive tape, if the length of the joint is shorter than the distance 1 between the brakes, one of the brakes always presses against the unglued section of the tape. PL PL
