1446734 Welder's eyeshield GOTAVERKEN AB 28 Aug 1973 [4 Sept 1972 13 March 1973] 40459/73 Heading G2J A welder's protecting eye-shield e.g. in the form of goggles or in one piece comprises a multi-layer interference filter which transmits in a narrow band covering the wavelength of yellow sodium light and, preferably, in at least one further narrow band in the range 570-600 mm. The transmission bands lie in dips in the intensity distribution of light emitted by the welding process and at the same wavelength as the emission lines of the discharge lamps used to illuminate the workpiece. Thus the shield protects while welding and yet allows the welder to see about himself clearly without removing the shield while not welding. The eye-shield may take the form of partspherical filters mounted in a frame so that, when worn, the centre of curvature of each filter lies at the centre of the corresponding eye. Alternatively a single element may be used either of simple curvature or shaped to have a convexity in a horizontal and a vertical plane. The filter does not transmit I.R. or U.V. [GB1446734A]

S h e r o f e s 1. Safety glasses, especially for welders, characterized by the fact that they contain an interference filter that transfers only spectral fragments in a limited number of narrow bands located at those points of the spectrum where the radiation intensity is slightly harmful to human eyes. 2. Glasses according to claim The method of claim 1, characterized in that the interference filter has characteristics adapted to convey a narrow band or bands of the spectrum which contain the radiation emitted by the fluorescent lamps used to illuminate the workplace. 3. Glasses according to claim The method of claim 2, characterized in that the interference filter has characteristics adapted to convey only a narrow band of the spectrum corresponding to the wavelengths of the sodium yellow light. 4. Glasses according to claim The apparatus of claim 1, characterized in that they include one filter (13) for each eye, each filter being formed as a segment of a spherical surface, the center of which lies exactly at the center of the corresponding eye. 5. Glasses according to claims 1, characterized in that the filter shaped in the form of a single arch covers both eyeballs, with the center of the circle, a part of which is the said gap, located between the eyes at a point much deeper than them, so that the appropriate angle of incidence of the majority of the dangerous beam is achieved radiation.
