Description

Jezeli w celce zaopatrzonej w uszczelnienie opisanego rodzaju dochodzi do silnego gazowania wzglednie do malych eksplozji, to wówczas uszczelnienia te ulegaja zniszczeniu gdyz stanowia one najslabsze miejsca. Jezeli zewnetrzna pierscieniowa2 90 307 czesc korka ma byc silniej wcisnieta w otwór pokrywy,, to wówczas zgodnie z innym rozwiazaniem wynalazku, korek ten moze byc wyposazony w dodatkowy sprezysty pierscien. Pomiedzy katoda z rteci a anoda i wokól anody, znajduje sie podlegajaca rozkladowi solanka 5. Jezeli promieniowa elastycznosc w kierunku preta anodowego zostanie zmniejszona, to wówczas uszczelnienie preta anodowego powinno byc zaopatrzone w dodatkowy sprezysty pierscien 10. Powierzchnia cylindryczna preta anodowego w miejscu przylegania do niej uszczelki 9 powinna byc mozliwie gladka azeby w razie potrzeby mozna bylo uszczelke 9 bez trudnosci przesunac na precie anodowym. PL PL PL PL PL PL PL PL PL PL PL PL PLThe invention concerns a flexible seal for the anode rod of a mercury electrolyzer equipped with a rigid cover with graphite anodes of fixed dimensions, where the anode rod passing through the cover serves as an electrical current path. The seal of the anode rod is intended to isolate the gas and liquid inside the mercury electrolyzer from the atmosphere and should also allow axial displacement of the anode rod relative to the cover. It is known that the cover, where the anode rod passes through the cover, has a circular opening with a diameter many times greater than the anode rod's diameter. The remaining portion of the annular opening not occupied by the electrode is covered with a flexible, heat- and corrosion-resistant membrane. The seal on the cover is made using a flanged ring and several screws, while tightness at the anode rod is achieved by compressing the membrane using a nut placed on the anode rod, which acts on a corrosion-resistant spacer sleeve surrounding the rod. Furthermore, anode rod seals with membranes are known, in which the central part of the membranes on the smooth surface of the anode rod is sealed with a special flange. In this case, the anode rod seal also consists of multiple parts. A significant disadvantage of these known seals is that the membranes sealed with screws and flanges must be loosened when it is necessary to move the anodes lengthwise. Frequent or excessive tightening of the screws leads to rapid compression and leakage of the membrane. If a cell equipped with a seal of the type described experiences significant gassing or small explosions, these seals are destroyed because they constitute the weakest point. The invention aims to eliminate these drawbacks, and the invention aims to develop a flexible seal for the anode rod in an electrolyzer that eliminates the shortcomings of known solutions. This problem is solved by the invention in such a way that the anode rod seal is a one-piece annular plug that forms a membrane inward and then terminates at the anode rod itself as a cylindrical seal. If the outer annular part of the plug is to be pressed more firmly into the cover opening, then, according to another embodiment of the invention, the plug can be equipped with an additional elastic ring. This ring can be omitted if the annular portion of the plug is less flexible than the membrane portion. The particular advantages of the seal according to the invention include simple and quick assembly and disassembly, good flexibility, and the ability to reposition or shift the anode rod both vertically and horizontally. In the event of an explosion caused by the formation of an explosive gas mixture, the annular plug is ejected upward without any damage to the electrolyzer parts or the seal itself. The invention is illustrated in an example embodiment in the drawing, based on which it is described below. A mercury layer 2 is placed on the bottom of the electrolyzer as the cathode. The anode 3, through a method not shown in the drawing, is positioned at the appropriate height relative to the anode rod so that the lower surface of the anode is at a precisely defined distance from the mercury layer. Between the mercury cathode and the anode and around the anode, there is a decomposable brine 5. The cell is closed at the top by a cover 6. The current is supplied by means of an anode rod 4. The gas-tight seal between the cover 6 and the anode rod 4 is provided by a seal according to the invention consisting of an external annular plug 7, which in the inward direction transforms into a membrane 8 ending at the surface of the anode rod with a seal 9. The annular plug 7 has a conical taper on the outside enabling it to be easily pressed into the cover opening. If the radial elasticity in the direction of the anode rod is reduced, then the anode rod seal should be provided with an additional elastic ring 10. The membrane itself can be smooth or corrugated. The seal 9 is shaped and dimensioned to ensure adequate tightness and is properly tensioned. The cylindrical surface of the anode rod where the seal 9 abuts should be as smooth as possible so that the seal 9 can be easily moved on the anode rod if necessary.
