A known method for making braided cotton spindle wicks placed centrally inside the candle's vessel involves stiffening a long wick by spiraling it along its entire length with a thin wire. The lower end of the wick is then inserted into a hole in the metal wick base and then attached to the wick base using the end of the wire. Another known method for stiffening wicks involves inserting a thin wire into the center of a cotton string. The wick is attached to the base using the same wire. A disadvantage and inconvenience of these methods of making wicks for wax lamps and votive candles is that the wire stiffening the wick does not burn with the wick and the votive candle's combustible material, causing excessive smoke. Stiffening the wick by unscrewing it spirally along its entire length is labor-intensive, while attaching the wick to the base with the wire is difficult and ineffective. A wick attached in this way often tilts sideways and must be positioned vertically when inserted into the votive candle's vessel before being filled with melted paraffin or wax, which creates additional technological difficulties. The essence of the invention. The purpose of the invention is to develop a method for making and stiffening wicks and a device for using this method that is free from the above disadvantages and inconveniences. This goal was achieved by developing a method according to the invention, which involves stiffening the wick by surface impregnation with a flammable varnish material such as: varnishes, oil varnishes, resin varnishes, bituminous varnishes, synthetic varnishes, spirit varnishes, chlorinated rubber varnishes, and most preferably with a colorless nitro varnish. The wick is unwound from a spool mounted rotatably on a frame pin located in the upper part of the device and is pulled through a vessel filled with various shapes and sizes of micro-rubber pieces covered with flammable varnish material. The saturated wick is then pulled out of the vessel through a curved funnel with an opening in the bottom of the vessel, pulled through a rotating roller attached to a worktable, the appropriate length L is measured using an adjustable stop, and trimmed with a blade attached to the table. The distance from the end of the funnel with the opening to the stop depends on the drying and stiffening time of the wick and is adjustable. The stiffened wick is attached to the sheet metal base by clamping the tips of the opening after first inserting the lower end of the wick into the opening and positioning the wick perpendicular to the plane of the base. - ¦ ' The device for making stiffened wicks, particularly for grave candles, which is also the subject of the invention, comprises a frame, preferably made of tubes or metal rods, on which a pin for the wick spool is mounted in the upper part. Below, a removable vessel with a conical bottom ending in a curved funnel with a hole for the wick is mounted on crossbars. A roller is mounted at a distance from the base of the frame placed on a work table to change the direction of movement of the stiffened wick. An adjustable stop and a blade are mounted at a distance from the roller to cut off measured pieces of the stiffened wick. Explanation of the figures. The invention is illustrated in an example embodiment in the drawing, where Fig. 1 shows a schematic diagram of a device for applying the stiffening and cutting method of wicks according to the invention, while Fig. 2 shows an enlarged axial cross-section of the sheet metal wick base with the wick mounted and secured. Example embodiment of the invention. The method according to the invention consists in stiffening the wick by surface-saturating the wick with a flammable varnish material. The wick 1 is unwound from the spool 2 rotatably mounted on the pin 3 located in the upper part of the frame of the device 4 and is pulled through the vessel 5 filled with pieces of micro-rubber 6 of various shapes and sizes, covered with a flammable stiffening material, preferably nitro varnish. The saturated wick 1 is pulled through a curved funnel 7 with an opening 8 in the bottom of the vessel 5 and pulled through a rotating roller 9 attached to the work table 10, and then the appropriate length L is measured using an adjustable stop 11 and cut with a blade 12. The distance from the end of the funnel 8 to the stop 11 depends on the drying and stiffening time of the wick 1 and is adjustable. The stiffened and cut wick 1 is fixed in the sheet metal base 13 by clamping the tips 14 of the opening 15 with pliers, after previously inserting the lower end of the wick 1 in the opening 15 and positioning it perpendicularly to the plane of the base. The device which is also the subject of the invention and solves the posed problem is a frame 4 made preferably of tubes and rods. metal, on which in the upper part a pin 3 is mounted for the spool 2 with the wick 1. Below, on crossbars 16, a cylindrical vessel 5 is mounted in a detachable manner with a conical bottom ending with a curved funnel 7 with an opening 8 for the wick 1. At a certain distance from the base of the framework 4 placed on the work table 10, a roller 9 is mounted for changing the direction of movement of the stiffened wick 1. At a certain distance from the roller 9, an adjustable stop 11 and a blade 12 are mounted to the table 10 for cutting off measured pieces of the wick 1. The advantage of the method and the device for using this method is that high efficiency is achieved on a relatively simple device for stiffening wicks. The wick, made using the method described in this invention, maintains sufficient stiffness both during production and during the burning process. The burning wick does not cause excessive soot buildup in the surrounding area.
