Abstract
Isolated cDNA's of the self-incompatibility (S-) loci of (1) Brassica napus ssp. rapifera and (2) Brassica campestris are claimed comprising sequences as defined in the specification. Also claimed are: (i) an oligonucleotide with homology to s-locus genes of Brassica consisting of sequence CTTGTGGCAAAGTTTCGATT (SEQ. ID. No.3); (ii) an oligonucleotide with homology to S-locus genes of Brassica consisting of sequence CTGACATAAAGATCTTG (SEQ. ID. No.4); (iii) a method of identifying and amplifying DNA sequences with homology to S-locus genes; and (iv) methods for detection of the S-locus allele, the 910 allele and the A14 allele in a Brassica seedling. Pref. the bacterium Agrobacterium tumifaciens is pref. used to introduce the vectors into SC plants, plant cells and plant protoplasts.
