Abstract

Diesters of 2,2'-(1,4-phenylene-bis-(oxy)) bis-ethanol of formula (1) are prepd. in an azeotropic systems with a 20-50% excess of 3-6C C8 and C10 aliphatic acids and respectively; branched chain acids as 5C-iso, 2-4C(2-ethyl-butynic), 2-6C(2 ethyl-hexanoic) acids, 1-3% catalyst-acid is chosen from benzene-sulphonic-, p-toluene-sulphonic- or sulphuric-acids. The azeotropic entraining component of benzene, toluene or xylene is used in single to double molar equivalent based on the diols used. Components are refluxed for 1.5-3 hrs. Solids contg. suspensions are filtered. The azeotropic.solvent and excess alcohol are removed by vacuum distillation. The prod. is washed with an alkaline soln. followed by demineralised water. Volatiles and colour are removedsed
