Abstract

1,122,699. Stamping. AMERICAN FLANGE & MFG. CO. Inc. 4 Jan., 1967 [24 Jan., 1966], No. 477/67. Heading B3Q. [Also in Division B8] A container wall closure assembly comprises a neck on the container, having a lower cylindrical wall portion 5 and an upper cylindrical wall portion 6 of smaller diameter formed with a polygonal cross-section, and a flange 1 which has as securing formation an upwardly extending portion 12 with polygonal outer profile and an outwardly opening funnel-shaped portion 13. The two polygonal surfaces engage and the funnel portion 13 is bent over to form a double seam joint, with the wall portion 6 of the neck. The joint is thus formed by two engaging channel-shaped portions, Fig. 6. A sealing cap 3 is fitted by pressing the edge of its skirt 29 under the double seam joint. The joint is formed by dies 50, 51, Fig. 2.
