Abstract
Compounds of the formula <FORM:1115047/C2/1> wherein R1, R2 and R3 are each alkyl of 1-4 C atoms and x is 0 or 1, are prepared by reacting boric acid or a reactive derivative thereof with a compound of formula <FORM:1115047/C2/2> wherein Y is radical which can be split off as an anion. Y may be a halogen or an alkoxy or hydroxyl group, and the boric acid derivative may be meta- or poly-boric acid or B2O3. The reaction may be carried out in an inert solvent under an inert atmosphere.ALSO:A biocidal composition comprises a compound of the formula: <FORM:1115047/A5-A6/1> wherein R1, R3 and R3 are each alkyl of 1-4 C atoms, and x is 0 or 1. The composition may be a dust or granulate using one of the conventional carriers, a wettable powder or paste obtained by milling or mixing the compound with dispersing agents and pulverulent carriers, a solution in e.g. H2O or organic solvents, or a fumigant obtained by mixing with sawdust and KNO3 and KClO4, or the active compound may be incorporated directly into the material to be protected. Specified materials are skins, leather, wood, paper, cotton, paints and lacquers. Other antimicrobial substances which may be present, are specified.
