Abstract

1439720 Respiratory mask SIEMENS AG 24 May 1974 [1 June 1973] 23462/74 Heading A5T A respiratory mask engages under the chin and over a portion of the top of the patients head and has a sealing edge which can be applied to the patient in a flexible state and reversibly converted to a rigid state for treatment. In the embodiment shown the mask 1 comprises a rigid hollow cylindrical portion 2 which is provided at one end 5 with sealing means 3, and at the other end with a rigid removable cover 4. The sealing means 3 comprises a tubular casing 6 containing powdered or granular material 7 whereby when suction is applied to the casing through pipe 8 the casing becomes substantially rigid and seals in gas-tight manner against the patient. The cylindrical portion 2 and the cover 4 are made of transparent plastics material. A filter 9 in pipe 8 prevents removal of the material during application of suction. Respiratory gas may be supplied by means 15 and a pressure regulator 11 allows various gas pressures to be used in the mask. The mask may be coupled with a respirator and with a discharge-gas analysis device.
