Abstract
1461843 Reinforcement spacers; shuttering spacers G BAUM 13 Feb 1974 [20 Feb 1973] 6651/74 Headings E1S and E1W Reinforcing rods 13 in, e.g., a concrete wall, are located by spacers 7 fixed to the shuttering ties 5 and gripping the rods in resilient jaws 11, 15. In the preferred embodiment, the spacer 7 has a stepped tubular body portion, with axial ribs 9 to grip a plastics tube 4 located over a tie 5. A peripheral internal groove 10 allows flexing of the body portion to accommodate different-sized tubes 4. Jaw 11 carries a spacing web 12 and has a narrow rib 14 thereon with notches therein to accommodate rods 13 of different diameters. Jaw 15 is reinforced by frame 16 and is also notched. A bracing cone 8 is fitted into spacer 7 during casting, and removed thereafter. It can be replaced by a sealing plug 18 with a peripheral bead 19 which fits into a peripheral groove 17 in the end of the tubular body portion of spacer 7.
