Abstract
1480863 Pneumatic tools ATLAS COPCO AB 8 Aug 1975 [8 Aug 1974] 33148/75 Heading B4C A pneumatic impact tool comprises a differential hammer piston with a head 27 and reduced shank portion 26 which slides in a constricted cylinder portion 30 thus forming a chamber 37, a further chamber 36 being formed between the piston head 27 and the tool 23 and slidable sleeve 18 surrounding it. In use chamber 37 is constantly pressurized from supply 46 and chamber 43. As the piston moves forwards holes 33 in the shank 26 allow pressure air into the shank at 31 and this passes through bore 34 to chamber 36 and an accumulator 42. Due to the differential shape of the piston it is forced backwards until holes 33 in the shank pass constriction 30 and vent the space 36 to atmosphere through outlet 40. The pressure in chamber 37 can again force the piston forwards. A cushioning spring may be provided between sleeve 18 and end cap 17 to absorb vibration. A catch 25 retains the drill steel.
