1513456 Cutting apparatus VAW LEICHMETALL GmbH 8 July 1975 [8 July 1974] 28685/75 Heading B4B An apparatus for the longitudinal cutting of soil in strip form comprises at least two blades 7, 7<SP>1</SP> arranged one behind the other in the direction of travel of the strip, the blades being spaced apart in the direction of width of the strip and angled towards one another in the direction of travel of the strip. The two blades 7, 7<SP>1</SP> i.e. razor blades, are mounted in a cutting head 8 which is connected to the piston of an hydraulic ram 9 slidably mounted on a rail 2, the ram being locked in a selected position by a lever 3. A pneumatic sensing device 6, Fig. 1 is mounted on the piston rod and controls the position of the cutting head relative to the surface of the strip material. The cutting head may be pivoted to bring the blades into a position in which they are protected by a guard 14. In a modification the hydraulic ram may be replaced by a pneumatically or electrically driven servo-motor.
