Abstract

An initial corrugating roller (2) intermeshes with a second corrugating roller (3) and forms with the latter a gap to permit passage of the web (1) to be corrugated. An apparatus (5) is used to apply adhesive to the corrugation crests (11) of this web and a pressure roller (7) is used to press the covering web (6) onto the corrugated web. The second corrugating roller (3) is provided with apertures (43) which are arranged in the floor of peripheral grooves provided in this roller and are connected via the inside of the roller to a low pressure source. Elements (44) engage in the peripheral grooves, in order to seal off the apertures in the peripheral region which is not encased by the corrugated web. This helps to form the corrugations and also to fix and convey the web along the circumference of the second corrugating roller (3). The elements (44) also serve to separate the corrugated web from the second corrugating roller (3) when it leaves the roller nip. <IMAGE>
