Abstract

A tundish comprising an outer metal casing, a relatively permanent lining of refractory material and an expendable inner lining formed of a set of slabs of refractory heat insulating material of a composition comprising refractory filler, binder and fibre is improved by incorporating sufficient carbonaceous material in the slab composition to increase the life of the slabs when exposed to molten metal during casting.
