Abstract

Process for preparing active sodium carbonate in which solid sodium carbonate decahydrate having the composition Na2CO3.10H2O or its mixture with water is dried by the gradual lowering of the water of crystallisation content until the composition corresponds to the hydrate Na2CO3.nH2O, where n = 0 to 1. In this process, the lowering of the water of crystallisation content until the composition corresponds to the hydrate Na2CO3.nH2O, where n = 0 to 5, is carried out at temperatures below 32@C. The final product prepared in this way is characterised by a high chemical activity (E) which can be exploited, in particular, for desulphurisation purposes. The starting material for the production of the active substance is a cheap and readily available raw material, namely sodium carbonate decahydrate. <IMAGE>
